Value of: Iginla to NYI

The Islanders would have to send a little salary the other way (Bailey), but could throw in something interesting to make it work. Colorado gets added cap space (2m) to sign Barrie, Islanders get a veteran RW to balance the forward lines.

NYI
Iginla

AVS
Bailey
2nd or an interesting B/C level prospect like Michell Vande Sompel

Change the 2nd to a 4th (or lower prospect)

If it is Bailey and Mitchell Sompel I would do it. With Bailey and a 2nd I do not. Prefer a prospect over a pick

Exactly. We sucked when we offered him a contract. Plus, he wanted to be back near his family. Even if the Avs and the Islanders were on the same level, he would have picked the Avs over us.

But adding him now would make us a much better team and a contender. Although I see him as more of a trade deadline acquisition than a summer one.

The 2nd is fine. We gave that up for Visnovsky when he had one year left on his contract, and that worked out great. Getting rid of Bailey is addition by subtraction.

have you watched Iginla recently?

This has to be the most peaceful thread in trade board history.

Doesn't hurt that one side would love to move the player that the other side is interested in...and the biggest hold up is the player in question's thoughts on the matter

That said; Islanders fans realize that he's really slowed down and is little more than a PP-specialist, who should play no higher than your 3rd line...and that only because of your very capable "4th" line...right?

If he's right handed, and still capable of scoring 20g and playing physical.... he'd be a welcome addition.

How important is it that he be fast enough to get in position to be physical...or that he needs to play on your first unit PP to give you those 20-25 goals?

Ladd-JT-PAP
Nelson-Strome-Lee
Kulemin-Grabovski-Iginla (the most overpaid line ever?)
Chimera-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
X - Prince, Quine

Trust me, you don't want Bailey. Islander fans **** on him left and right and he really isn't that good of a player. Here and there he shows you flashes of why he was drafted so high, but he has and will never put it together.

You'll get more out of Iginla.

Islander fans bust on Josh Bailey because he's misused (1st line and 1st unit PP at times). He can play any forward position in your bottom 9 (preferably bottom 6), PK, post 30-40pts and play solid defense.

But hey, if you would rather have Kulemin or Grabovski we'd love to hang onto Josh

The Bailey haters are a funny bunch. Bailey is no world beater, but he is a solid NHLer. I don't mind keeping him at all, he's a jack of all trades and could be useful now that Nielsen is gone.

The haters will still bash him no matter what anyway, right Slapshot?

I think I'd be roughly lumped in as a "Bailey hater" as he frustrates the bejeezus out of me, but he really is a solid 3rd line C/LW. Responsible enough defensively, capable of roughly 35 points.

Is he overpaid at 3.3? Sure, but so is Iginla at 5.3.

Bailey + MVS for Iginla sounds fair to me.

Should we tell Isles fans or not?

Let's put it this way: as an Avs fan I'd be willing to retain 50% of Iggy's salary and trade him for a 3rd or a 4th round puck.

Both his cap hit and the way he plays are hurting the team. A clear case of addition by substraction.

I don't think anyone expects the 35g, 85pt Iginla that hits everything that moves and skates like the wind. If he's good enough to play on the 3rd line RW and 2nd unit PP, pot 20g and add some physical play.... he will be a welcome addition here.

chimera/parenteau/quine/prince will be a + with making the team a bit quicker than last season .last season the isles were slow so if any trades / additional free agents come in they need to have fresh legs .

A little too much hate on Iggy from Avs fans. It's true he's just a shadow of his former self, but he still manages to put himself in position to score goals. It's also true that you have to worry about what's going on between the goals with him these days. But if a team is in position to give him tons of o zone starts and pp time, he's still a producer.

Yeah...Parenteau isnt making any team "quicker".

His offensive production comes at a high price, and I'm not talking about money. He's a nuisance on the ice and he's gifted his ice time. Our whole PP was centered around giving the puck to him, that's the only reason why he still score.

That's officially an overpayment...

Bailey always leaves one wanting more, but he could actually help the Avs implement some structure into their schemes. He knows every job on the ice and executes. On my viewings of the Avs, this would actually help them.

But, honestly, I think Iginla is done.

This is fair, but I would hate it as an Isles fan.

TB skated circles around the Isles in the playoffs, and Pittsburgh is built the same way. You need speed to compete with these teams, and that is something Iginla clearly doesn't have at this point in his career.

If he were coming in as a 3rd liner/power play specialist maybe it would make sense, but I think Capuano would feel obliged to put Iginla on the top-line where he would be a drag on Ladd and Tavares.
