JAROME IGINLA - 1y @ $5.3334

in exchange for

MILAN MICHALEK - 1y @ $4.0000
some retention on Michalek ($1M?)
HOLLAND (C/LW) or CORRADO (D) - RFA

Leafs (and Babcock) desire Iginla's character and veteran presence, and would like to acquire him without moving a quality pick or prospect. Futures for older guys isn't in the Leaf blueprint at this stage in the game.

Avalanche desire salary relief, cheap youngish depth and to move on from Iginla. I lurked the Avs subforum last year and they aren't exactly thrilled with Iggy anymore. Either Michalek replaces Iggy, or Michalek gets injured (and Rantanen can play instead).

What do you guys think? I feel like Avs might hold out for a pick or prospect of some kind.

Iginla won't waive his NMC, so it's a moot point.
Why not? Play for Babcock in the hockey mecca (who for the most part adore him), mentoring Matthews Nylander Rielly and possibly Marner.

Is he so happy in Denver? It's of course only rumours but I read stuff about locker room issues that may or may not involve Duchene. Also Roykic seem to have no effective plan to become a contender again. They're just treading water. Leafs have their plan and it's working so far.

No disrespect to Avs fans intended. Just thinking that Iggy is a Canadian boy who might prefer to be playing on a less dysfunctional team in his home country instead.

He's happy in Denver. There's no locker room issues involving Duchene. Even if the Avs are treading water, it's miles above of the Leafs. Iginla wouldn't even waive for Calgary.

Toronto isn't going to give up assets for a 1 year rental upgrade when they aren't even competing for a playoff spot.

That you started?

This is the same poster that suggested Landeskog is available based off of rumours that were months old .

I've never read anything that suggests Duchene is a problem in the lockerroom. I have read however that Iggy isn't going to waive his NMC. He likes it in Denver and doesn't want to uproot his family.

The Avs had a pretty mediocre year, but the leafs just finished at the bottom of the standings. What are you talking about?

Yeah, no thanks. I love Iggy and he was always one of my favourites, but he just flat-out isn't a good player anymore. I don't see a reason in targeting him, and I don't see a reason for him waiving his NMC to come to a likely bottom-feeding team like the Leafs.

Iggy already said he's not waiving his NMC. You're spot on though. Iggy is nothing more than a PP specialist at this point. He is not a viable option for any top 6. He's ideally a guy that plays less than 15 minutes a night that sees a lot of time on the PP. One of my favorite players but it's time for.him to call it a career.

The only way I see Iggy waive his NMC is to a serious contender at the deadline, if the Avs are way out of a playoff spot, and if he's planning to retire at the end of the season and wants one last try for a cup.

You want a guy who is maybe gonna retire after next season?
Then you are desperate for veteran presence if you dont mind that one.
You think those kids like Marner, Nylander would become new players within that one year?

Not every Canadian desires to play in Toronto and what good does the leafs plan do for Iginla? He will be long retired by the time they're half decent.

Makes no sense leaving Colorado for that.

Love to have Iggy on the leafs. Can't see him waiving to anyone but a contender.

Expect a deadline trade to a contender.

It's a cool NHL 16 idea but makes no sense in real life.

Wasting his last year on a bottom feeder instead of going for a playoff run? Yes I know Roy is probably the worst coach in the league but Colorado has so much talent. I think they have a good shot at making the playoffs despite the coaching.

Exactly the way I see it too.

I could have seen him waive for Edmonton or Calgary as part of a package as he'll likely retire to Alberta, but even then, it would have to be before the season started.

I honestly don't think he'll waive even at the deadline.

A lot will depend on his game this season. If he can still be an effective top 9 player then I definitely think teams will be interested and he'll be open to the idea...

The Avs are going nowhere in a hurry. If his body and game are right, I can't imagine him not wanting one last shot somewhere else.
