If we're going to try to get younger, bringing him back isn't exactly doing that. I'd rather give one of our prospects a better look this season.

No room for him currently,

LW-Gaborik, Kempe, Pearson, Clifford
RW-Brown, Toffoli, Brodzinski, Lewis

Unless we move a forward or two, don't see a fit.

I counted the number of dudes you listed and almost agreed with your point. Then I realized you counted Gaborik as a whole dude and voted to bring Iginla back for cheap.

I was thinking about this yesterday. Obviously money is the main question and we have to see what all is available this offseason. If he isn't signed half way through and we don't see any good opportunities, then I would take him back for a year as long as the paycheck is under $2 million.

If they can get him for $2 million for 1 season then I'd do it. At best he can help the leadership void for a season. Maybe have him take Doughty under his wing. I think Doughty would be the best captain out of the 3 current ones but he's clearly too immature still and not captain material yet. Hopefully Iginla could groom Doughty into that role. And if the Kings aren't a legit contender at the deadline, which I doubt, then hopefully there's a market for Iginla.

No room for him in the bottom 6 and with Brown and Gaborik still on the team one or both could be occupying wings on the 3rd or 1st line based on need.

I would sign Iginla and Jagr over the summer if they agree to 1 year deals with cap hits that combined fit within the cap. There appears to be no trade available for a young top 6 forward, and signing both of these guys will give Kopitar two wingers until next summer.

Jagr-Kopitar-Iginla
Toffoli-Carter-Pearson
Brodzinski-Kempe-Brown

If you want to move on from at least two of the Clifford/Nolan/AA trio AND MacDermid is in their plans, I'd be okay with it.

Iginla/MacDermid would make me pleased from a toughness perspective. Iginla could work the PP as well.

His defense though? Woah boy.

Good for the youth and even Kopitar to be around him for a whole season as well.

Hey, why not? So far this off season the Kings have had no problem making drastic, creative or conservative decisions. Next season is going to be a mad scientist experiment in competing for the playoffs while at the same time wisely preparing for the future. This will certainly be interesting.

Iginla, Jagr, Thornton, Marleau, Brian Campbell.

If you have cap space, UFA signings on short term deals are basically free assets with no consequences. Adding Iginla and Jagr will give us offensive punch, and if not, no big deal, if we signed them to one year deals.

I'd be fine with an add like Iginla or someone similar for the right price. The season is a grind, and rookies tend to struggle with it. Even if Kempe/Brodz are playing all the time, they need some breaks to recover and watch.

If Thornton does not sign in SJ, I wouldn't mind giving him a one-year $6 million contract since we have the cap space. Or, two years at $4 million. He could play 2C, and we could move Carter to Kopitar's wing.

Carter-Kopitar-Brown/Gaborik (when back)
Toffoli-Thornton-Pearson

He wants 3 years 5M per.

If we was willing to sign a 1 or 2 year deal he likely would have already re-upped with SJ. He's going to see if anyone on the market is willing to give him the term he wants.

Blake and his staff will inquire. Whether or not they're willing to give a 3 year deal to a 38 year old is another story. This type of deal would put us up against the cap. Forbort is an RFA next year and the Kings may want to try and lock up so they'll need some cap space.
