best thing right now is to keep losing and get a good pick, use this as the last string for marty going into next year and make next year what everyone wants to do this year

I dont mind the losing, I mind the losing attitude. Players like Dvorak that can't seem to care...need to be move away from those that may be the core of this team in the future

One move, which ever that may be won't move the needle...losing has set in and the progress has stifled. 80% of this roster is not playing as well as they did last season. This team as is could land another 1st overall pick

Not much to do at this point. Ride it out, use this season to evaluate if St.Louis is able to implement defensive systems for the team, sell at the deadline and be active scouting potential UFAs or trade targets this summer.

i don't think a lot of those things really do much to help improve the team however i said scratch a vet if not both of Armia and Dvorak one of them anyway.

At some point MSL has to realize that these guys aren't putting enough effort to warrant them being in the lineup above Pezz at this point,at least he is psychical and tries to do something when hes on the ice.

If thats not something they do the only other thing i can think of they should do in house is bring up one of Beck/Tuch/Roy.

If i were in Managements Situation though i would go for a big trade and acquire a Solid Defensive RD that fits the timeline of the team,Whats the point of having all these prospects and draft picks and not package it together to acquire someone that can help you now and the future?

Wish we could pick more than one option. I would make a small trade, which would then cause vets to be displaced out of the lineup. Shake it up and add a player we need. Could also free up players to move for a second trade for a decent RD

Replacing Dvorak-Heineman-Kappanen with Roy -Tuch and Davidson would bring both talent and grit to the lineup. Keep Beck in Laval for the season.

Yeah he's coaching the coach.
So he's not a hockey coach is what you're saying? I thought that was his qualifications, I mean the title is just because they didn't want him to move behind the bench. He doesn't really need to either to assist the club. Replacing an assistant coach behind the bench with another coach isn't going to change much more than hiring Grillo imho.

It would just create more conflicting views.

The easiest thing is to waive someone like Dvorak and hopefully send a wake-up call to the rest of the team that no ones job is safe. There's no reason to waste any more time on him in hopes you MIGHT get a late pick for him at the deadline.

I agreed with them sending Roy down to start the season after not a great camp, but it isn't a good look when you let it fly for someone like Dvorak then continue to put up with his pathetic efforts to start the season.

The next move when Dobes is healthy would be to bring up Hughes and waive Primeau. Every time Primeau has an opportunity to earn more starts he fails and he can't even be trusted as a back-up at this point. Hughes looked good in his minimal time in pre-season and has had a great start in the AHL, he's in his late 20s so there is no risk to giving him a shot when your current goalies are putting up save percentages around .860% since the first game of the year.

There is a difference between a teacher and a pedagogue. Grillo was hired to be a strategist and mentor. It doesn't require the same involvement of being coach with media availabilities, maintaining relationships with the players etc. It's not that complicated. I don't think Jacques Martin was happy to step in last year for the Sens and he has a shit ton of experience

And if you hire an experience coach to act as an assistant coach, which of these 2 roles does he fill? Doesn't look clear cut to me. It's like they were going with this consultant strategy or the assistant coach to replace the coach one and they picked the former option.

I don't think Marty is getting replaced mid-season this season anyhow.

That's why you gotta start somewhere, can't allow losing habits to settle for too long or we better hope we get ourselves a McDavid type pick to turn it around.

At forwards, only Suzuki and Caufield have figured it out (and seen playoffs action) with Slaf getting there. The rest are either ineffective washups, gambles trying to figure it out or green rookies. I'd try getting a guy like Eller once Pit throws the towel on the season, a steady reliable presence who's effective in his own zone and can take pressure off the youngsters.
Unless Dach miraculously breaks out, I'd make an agressive pitch for Tavares this summer, if we can sign him for close to Suzuki's price tag I feel it could do wonders in our situation to round up our forward corps (not like leafs who had already too many star players, we don't have a Mathews/Marner duo about to break bank).

Defense is trickier as there aren't that many decent options available but the same principle applies.
You need guys who know the ropes and are still effective at it to bring the kids along. Otherwise we'll be following the footsteps of the Sabres of this world.
