1. Give a chance to some young AHL guy instead of Dvorak.
2. Look for steady, two way veteran presence at the blue line.
3. Hire an experienced assistant coach for overall defensive game.
4. Call a conference to calm the medias and the population the f*** down and reminding them this was planned (struggles, ups and down) all along when they signed up for a rebuild + show support for MSL.
5. Look for some weight and energy in the bottom 6.
6. Analyze how the team is after the coming back of Laine and see where we go from there.

Chose hire an experienced assistant coach. St-Louis' whatever-he-calls-it isn't working. Get some structure. Let guys know what their role is.

Then trade the vets, or waive them, and bring up kids like Roy. Make small trades to bring in bottom six vets on expiring deals to bring grit, size and piece of mind to the kids so they can learn without worrying about taking dirty hits. Something that has already happened way too often this season already.

Let November play out. If things don’t change, really lean into finishing for a lottery pick this season. Go full scorched earth on guys including Matheson.

Hire some more help behind the bench, do NOTHING but rebuild. Bring some beef in here asap to help the bottom lines and control the games a little more on the forecheck. Who would have thought losing Harris and Kovacevic would turn this blueline into such a steaming pile of garbage?

Missing option: Open myself a beer and watch some Netflix while waiting for the end of my contract.

Or.. "The I'm not convince Mr. Clean can clean up this mess." option.

Because I think that one should never compromise on effort, the first move would be to send a message to the team that from now on, you play 60m, all out and commit to the team or you are out. To illustrate this you either trade Dvorak for another team UFA, or waive him if there are no trade available.

I give it 5 games or so to see if more is needed, however, during this 5 game stretch, I sit with MSL and discuss the idea of bringing help behind the bench.

Regardless of the result, I also keep looking for a way to better balance the D group. More experience and more grit. Matheson, Hutson, Mailloux, Barron, Engstrom are all in the same mold (offense first, at risk defensively), cant have a top 6 build with these.

MSL has too much on his plate. Hire another assistant so MSL just deals with the big picture. He has no time for micro-management.

I might be wrong, but I think Grillo is already the assistant coach that could take over if things don't improve. Ala Randy Cunneyworth.

If Monty can't find his footing and be consistent as the #1, KH might need to rethink the backup decision...

I get why they moved Allen & kept Primeau, but Monty has to be a reliable 55-60game #1 for that to work, and first month showing wasn't that.

Curiosity: Alfred Lepine (1939-1940) seems to be the worst coach Habs ever had in their history. Win pct at .260

I'm putting Dvorak on waivers and then I'm getting the entire team in the room and letting them know there's accountability. If you don't want to be here, don't be here. If you don't want to give 100% every shift, you don't get to be here.

We can lose games but we can't lose games because we weren't trying hard enough, we didn't have enough pride, we were getting pushed around, or we couldn't execute simple hockey plays.
