oh this is "adjusted" stats....in other words, made up stats.

I was just going by career per game averages. Lemieux scored 690 in 915. That's a faster pace than Ovi. Then he scored another 76 in 107 playoff games. Ovi scored 72 in 151 playoff games.

This is no slight on Ovi. You're just trying to compare him against very tough competition!

Lemieux played in a era that was far easier to score in. Again, read the stats I provided:

During Lemieux's first 15 NHL seasons, there were ninety 50 goal seasons.

During Ovechkin's first 15 NHL seasons, there were twenty-two 50 goal seasons (despite there being far more players).

Accounting for scoring environment differences is not "made up stats."

No. He didn't.

Again, Ovechkin sustained a higher adjusted GPG for hundreds more games than Lemieux.

Jim Brown led the NFL in rushing 8 times.

Emmitt Smith led the NFL in rushing 4 times.

Ovechkin led the NHL in goals 9 times.

Lemieux led the NHL in goals 3 times.

Your analogy is not good.
Phil Esposito led the NHL in goals 6 times. He also scored 27 more regular season goals, but in 367 less games.

I suppose he's a better goal scorer than Lemieux too!

Crosby, dont consider this close at all. McDavid is the most talented of the 3 but the defensive effort and intelligence and clutchness of Sid is something people cant just ignore. Weve also seen him win 3 stanley cups, one at 21 and 2 more a decade into his career. He had 3 cups when he was 29, McDavid is 28 right now. Of course those are team awards but here we are picking someone in order to win. We have seen Sid win too much to say that McDavid is the strictly more impactful player on winning.

If all 3 were entering the league simultaneously and you wanted to sell tickets and get the most exciting player then its McDavid or Ovechkin hands down. Im taking Sid for winning though. No wrong answers here though, obviously 31 GMs in the league would foam at the mouth if McDavid was ever available.

Not only can Crosby's "defense" be ignored, it can be demonstrated to be a clear liability.

Over the past 2 seasons, Sidney Crosby leads all NHL forwards in on-ice goals against at 5v5, by a significant margin:

Some people prefer to look at goals against rates.

On a per 60 minutes played basis, like a true Selke champion Sidney Crosby skyrockets from the absolute worst defensive forward in the entire league all the way up to the 7th worst defensive forward in the NHL (min 300 mins 5v5 TOI). -Significantly worse than Connor McDavid or Alex Ovechkin.

At 5v5 these past two seasons, the Pens bleed a 1980s-like 3.62 goals against with Crosby on the ice. 2.95 for McDavid. 2.87 for Ovechkin.

Somehow Malkin manages 2.74 GA/60 in front of that same defense and goaltending as defensive genius Sidney Crosby. Clearly Crosby is playing 4 dimensional chess:

I think even Edmonton takes Crosby on the off chance he somehow gets it done in the playoffs.

That said, I think Pitt wins every cup with McDavid, so no shot at him, just that they are both mega talented legends on basically the same skill level, McDavid better offensively, Crosby better all around.

How well did Crosby do in game sevens? I think there's a lot of ex post facto reasoning in picking him. McDavid I feel is a higher caliber player.

Crosby's clutchness boils down to getting carried by teammates in the Cup finals.

2009: 1-2-3, -3 and zero points in games 5-7
2016: 0-4-4, even
2017: 1-6-7, +5

Altogether he has 13 points in 19 games in the 3 Cup wins, McDavid hasn't come close to having that luxury. Hell, McDavid lost going 3-8-11. In 7 games he had more goals and only 2 less points than Crosby has had in his 3 wins.
