If we do it tonight, or (I don't even want to say it) in Game 7, what is the next level we can safely attain without this fanbase imploding and bleating all summer about "break up the core, fire (insert name-s here), etc, etc."

Here's my dilemma: If we go out in the next round, I'll be disappointed but not despondent. The first round exit monkey will at least be gone. But if we manage to advance to the CF and then lose, I'm afraid it will resurrect my '93 PTSD with Graham Skillitor replacing Kerry Fraser in my nightmares.

Anything is gravy. The team is going to be in its prime for at least the next 5 years given the age of the core and there's also Knies, Niemela and Robertson coming up so lots of help coming. Although, I feel like if the Leafs can put away Tampa, a run to the finals should not surprise anyone.

I think they need an ECF appearance at least. Winning 1 round in 4 seasons under Kyle after he inherited this core is not good enough. I think this team can go all the way if they get through TB. Washington or Florida don't scare me. Pit, or Boston/Carolina are good teams but those are very winnable series for us against either one of them.

Yea, but you gotta think about the goaltending and John Tavares decline that is coming very fast, IMO. If they lose in round 2, I think there would be major concerns about the cap. Can you win with the dollar store goaltending while you have a 11M albatross contract to a declining player?

Even within the time that Tavares contract ends, Matthews will only be 27. Also, McDavid contract is up and he may want out. I am most concerned about the Tavares contract more than anything.

I'll be happy with a first round win but not satisfied. We should expect more

Winning this series should stop the "blow it up" noise, even if they go out in the next round.

Beating the B2B champs buys them that benefit of the doubt that they deserve more time together.

You could argue that this far into this project, just one round isn't ambitious enough, but I don't care - 4 wins is all I wanted when they dropped the puck 10 days ago. As a fanbase, we aren't allowed to be greedy.
