If the top 5 from 2014 were a year younger, where would they be drafted?

Where would Ekblad,Reinhart,Draisaitl,Bennett, and Dal Colle go in this years draft?

I would say

1.McDavid
2.Eichel
3.Ekblad
4.Hanifin
5.Marner
6.Reinhart
7.Strome
8.Bennett
9.Provorov
10.Werenski
11.Draisaitl
12.Rantanen
13.Zacha
14.Crouse
15.Barzal
16.Dal Colle

I really do think Nylander/Ehlers would bump off 1 or even 2 of the top 5 last year.

1.McDavid
2.Eichel
3.Ekblad
4.Hanifin
5.Marner
6.Strome
7.Reinhart
8.Bennett
9.Werenski
10.Provorov
11.Nylander
12.Ehlers
13.Barzal
14.Rantanen
15.Zacha

So Nylander and Ehlers over Dal Colle and Draisaitl...

Maybe understand them being over Draisaitl but Dal Cole has played phenomenal in the O this year.

thing is Nylander was expected to be above L.D and MDC but the scouts questioned his attitude and maturity causing him to fall. If it was on pure ability to play the game Nylander would have been top 3. Now since the draft most of the issues have been answered.

I've looked at the November mock that I assume you are talking about and there are multiple very notable falls.

I don't think "attitude and maturity" are the reason he fell. Just look at everyone else that fell.
I mean Ho-Sang was ranked 29th there, had maturity and attitude issues throughout the entire season and rose in mosts mock drafts and in the real one.

McDavid/Eichel
Hanifin/Ekblad
Reinhart/Bennett/Marner/Strome
Draisaitl/Raantanen/Crouse/Dal Colle

I think these are the tiers that they fall under

I got a little carried away and a little farther but...

Going off of a Lottery Picks Mock draft (1-14 + 15-30 ranked), I'd say:

1. :sabres C Connor McDavid
Because it's the Lord and Saviour himself

2. :edmonton C Jack Eichel
Assuming they don't have Leon Draisaitl, then it becomes obvious what their need is.

3. :coyotes C Sam Reinhart
This is more just style and fit over skill and talent. Max Domi, Sam Reinhart. They play well together and this being 2015, we've seen that at the WJC. Sam's also a #1 Centre in his own right.

4. :canes RHD Aaron Ekblad
No Haydn Fleury means that this Canes team is still thinking D first. Grab that rare elite RHD, despite already having one in Faulk

5. :leafs LHD Noah Hanifin
The general consensus for Leafs fans this year seems to be 'If Hanifin is available and McEichel are gone, take him over Strome, even with Rielly'. They do just that.

6. :cbj RW Mitch Marner
They could use D with this pick, but opt BPA. Marner's Patrick Kane 2.0, and may be the #1RW they've needed since Nash/Gaborik.

7. :devils C Dylan Strome
They need offensive youth, Strome fits the bill here. Gives tremendous future centre depth of Strome - Henrique - Zajac.

8. :sens LHD Zach Werenski
More of a personal preference of Werenski over Provorov here. He's got the size and intelligence to develop into a 2-way stud, while Karlsson remains the 'Offensiveman'.

9. :flyers LW Leon Draisaitl
He's the LW of the future to pair with Giroux and and Jake. Of course, at this point in this 'amazing draft', Leon Draisaitl isn't regarded as the Leon Draisaitl of the real 2014 draft. Seen as a Bo Horvat selection. Underrated.

10. :stars LHD Ivan Provorov
No more trade rumours of Dion Phaneuf in Dallas. They grab their PP Specialist #1/2 D man of the future. Thinking D in 2014 (Honka), doesn't change.

11. :avs LW Sam Bennett
They opt for Sammy's heart and speed to mesh with Duchene and Mackinnon. Like Draisaitl in Philly, Sammy will be placed onto the wing and help O'Reilly move to Centre. Line up:
Bennett - Duchene - Mackinnon
Landeskog - O'Reilly - Iginla

12. :panthers RW Mikko Rantanen
Because a pairing of Barkov and Rantanen is just what Tallon wants. Almost a no doubt choice.

13. :sharks C Matt Barzal
The Sharks need a replacement for Thornton's cerebral vision and the guy for the job is Barzal. Like a Quarterback in the pocket is what I like to say, displays vision and smarts. Wont have to be forced to play right away in San Jose

14. :flames RW Jake Virtanen
A bit off the board, he fits their style and can play both wings. Almost went at #4 in 2014 but Burke and co. opted for Bennett. Another case of a perfect player for the team.

Rankings (15-30):

15. Michael Dal Colle C
16. Pavel Zacha C
17. Lawson Crouse LW
18. Oliver Kylington LHD
19. William Nylander RW
20. Nikolaj Ehlers LW
21. Timo Meier RW
22. Nick Merkley RW
23. Nick Ritchie LW
24. Dylan Larkin LW
25. Jeremy Roy RHD
26. Kyle Connor C
27. Yevgeni Svechnikov LW
28. Kevin Fiala RW
29. Brandon Carlo RHD
30. Travis Konecny C

Cool. And DraisItl has, ya know, played in the NHL this year. Oh yeah, he's also currently making the WHL look like Bantam AA.

Size over skill in drafts. It's the reason Nylander and Ehlers fell to 8 and 9 in their own draft behind guys like Draisaitl, Dal Colle and Virtanen. Crouse just happens to have some skill and isn't lazy like most guys with his body. With a name like So Truculent I'd have thought you'd get that!

I wouldn't take Crouse till at least #20 in this draft nevermind both together

Nice presentation but Ekblad has proven to be far superior to Reinhart this year so I doubt Sam is going before him even if there are organizational needs.

My comment was also tongue in cheek. I found it funny how you dislike the bigger "truculent" Brian Burke guys so much that you've written off a guy like Lawson Crouse. Agree to disagree.
