Let’s be honest - - there’s not a chance in hell that Toronto is losing four straight to little brother. None whatsoever.

No matter how badly some Leaf “fans” are hoping for it.

They only need to lose 2 straight. But I think they close it out tonight.

I wish I could unsee this post…..

Didn't you say the other day that the Senators were no competition and that you were waiting for a quality opponent to play the 2nd round?
And that is still exactly how I feel today. Ottawa is not competition for the Leafs, just as Ottawa is not competition for any Cup contender. In other words, don't beat your chest because the Leafs beat Ottawa (and, yes, they will). Wait until they play another Cup contender.

Unless Showcase, Mitchy and Nilly, do something they’ve never done in the playoffs, Ottawa will dictate who wins the series.

Do I think they will? If they blow this series, I don't know how they can run it back. I know they're somehow both obstinate and cowards, but I don't know how you can have a 1-15 record in series clinching games over a decade which includes 3-0 and 3-1 losses against your biggest rivals and not change something. The fear of losing the "value" of Marner to UFA will give them lots of pause, but how can you not do anything after NINE YEARS?

I don't believe it has anything to do with jerseys. They'd make far more money and all our kids would go to Brendan Shanahan Public School if they made deep playoff runs. It's cowardice. Will the cowards give their balls a tug if we lose a 3-0 series lead to the f***in Sens? Eh...

Should they? Absolutely.

Who are the 23 people that voted yes...

I wanted it blown up after Montreal 2021.

I've wanted it blown up every single year since.

The first 3 games of this Sens series really had me believing they might be different.

Game 5 absolutely shook the core of my soul into confirming that they aren't.

We currently have a 3-2 series lead against a divisional opponent, which a glorious opportunity to dump them out on their home ice. And I can't even enjoy it, because it feels like there's existential dread around the corner about to absolutely unload the sort of trauma I'm just not equipped to handle.

Everyone says I'm too negative.

Yet even I can't see them blowing this series. But this thread is filled with people who expect it to happen. If I'm too negative what does that make all them.

Even these guys can't possibly choke this series away.

I've seen a lot of chokers before. And these guys are the chokiest chokers that ever choked. But there's no way they lose this one.

Ottawa stinks to high heaven and back.

They're coach is Travis Green ffs. The only reason I watch Senators games anymore is Brady Tkachuk. Otherwise there's not much good to see there.

Anyone actually expecting the Leafs to lose this series is just being too damn negative.

Don't bet the farm would be my advice.

All they have to do to lose the series is lose 2 games in a row. Considering they just did that, it seems like a distinct possibility.

Ottawa is pretty bad, no argument there and the Leafs should be able to handle them without too much trouble. That said, I don't "expect" the Leafs to lose, but IMO it would be naive to not acknowledge the possibility. GLG!!

It's possible I get off the couch and jog around the block too.

Anything can happen that's why lottery's exist. And I'll admit if they do lose this game they likely lose the series too. If they do it will be the worst choke job for this team in my lifetime and maybe even ever in the team's history.

At that point everyone from Shanahan on down should have a target on their back.

Anyone more optimistic than me is delusional. Anyone more pessimistic than me is a doomer.

I joined that dark side after Game 5. I could see it in them as soon as the 4 minute Game 4 OT PP started. The way that the Leafs work is that they get your hopes up before finding new and exciting ways of crushing it. I had thought that we'd see something more dramatic this year, such as finally making the ECF before blowing a big lead like this, the meltdown after that would be pretty epic, but apparently 3-0 to the Senators in the 1st round is what we've been handed.

Ottawa isn't great, but they don't stink. They're a decent wildcard team with a plucky attitude, decent depth, and a couple of darn good players. The only thing that truly stinks in this series is our best players the moment there's any blood in the water. Forget "lack of killer instinct", our big guys are sniveling cowards. That right there is the be all and end all of why I think we're toast. I'll gladly take all the @'s if we pull it out, but at 1-13 and the same old team on display, we know where this is going.

I agree with you. I really thought they had matured to the point they could at least realize the opportunity they had during that 4 minute PP in OT and put in maximum effort. But once Rielly was put on that PP, I knew there would be alot of perimeter play and no shots on goal from the point. When Matthews hit that post on what should have been a sure goal, I realized he doesn't have a clutch bone in his body.

If they lose tonight, you just know whatever can go wrong in Game 7 will...from a soft goal, to a bunch of posts, to refs deciding a game with a bad call, to Matthews picking up another mysterious ailment, to Nylander developing migraines, etc. The list goes on for this bunch.

They lose tonight, they're losing Game 7. Guaranteed.

I don't think it's going to happen but it might.

Of course not, but it won't stop these threads from popping up. I say merge this one with the future is bleak thread. Put all the Eeyore posts into a single thread for ease of use, to be visited only by fans of Emo rock.

It's a hypothetical.

If you're confident it won't be a scenario, then don't worry about it.

I would have thought you positive types would have a thicker skin after all these years of playoff disappointment. If you can be positive through that, you can be positive through anything. The rest of us aren't immune to the gloom it would seem

I wouldn't worry. If you're right, we will all be positive by the time this playoff run is complete.

The question isn't what you want, it's what you think management will do.

Most fans, and anyone with half a brain really have known this group cant get it done for a long time, yet here we are. Regardless of your thoughts on management/coaches/GM over the last ~10 years it should clear to anyone/everyone that the mandate to keep the core together comes from the top.

The only way Marner and JT aren't back is if they don't want to come back. We'll match, and probably beat any UFA offer they get.

Sounds like a decision on Shanahan has already been made, and as I've said all along, I believe Marner is leaving as a free agent.

So, at a minimum, those are 2 big changes that are already going to change the course of this franchise moving forward.

Fans will never get the satisfaction of actually witnessing this thing get "blown up" though, which is a real shame.

You enjoy being the butt of jokes and if that makes you happy, keep on keeping on. We all need a reason to get out of bed. I hope you don't put money down on your predictions.

I enjoy seeing the massive overreactions to a team losing a whopping 2 games in a row.

Maybe there are some over reactions but let us not forget your quote:

"And that is still exactly how I feel today. Ottawa is not competition for the Leafs"

I mean - do you watch hockey?
