If the Leafs are rebuilding .. should Kessel be traded ?

Who would you draft? Have you ever seen him play? Will this player be as good as Kessel?

That *IS NOT* the question.
That is a nearly irrelevant question.

The question is ... are the Leafs a serious Cup threat ? ... or do they need rebuilding ?

If you think they need rebuilding .... Kessel should probably be traded.

SUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...
if you live in fantasy land, you could say

"Let's trade Homophobic Sluroof"
"Let's trade Clarkson" (nice move Nonis).
"Lets trade Lupul".

But none of those are really that trade-able.

The Leafs need a MAJOR rebuild.
Rebuild = Dumping large cap hits

*MY* idea, is to build from the net out:
(1) Goalie: Bernier. Done. Hope he is as good as I think he might be.
(2) Defence: whoa. Major problems. Need a #1 D man, or as good as can be acquired. Strengthen the blueline as much as possible.
(3) Offence: dump whatever is required to improve (2).

To properly rebuild, you have to dump MAJOR "Win Now" assets ... especially someone like Kessel who is in his prime.

Don't worry though. It's just me who wants to win a Stanley Cup. MLSE clearly doesn't. They make money regardless. Nonis picks up a cheque regardless if he signs a dud like Clarkson. MLSE doesnt have the guts to move Kessel. No real accountability. They want to pretend the team they have assembled is "good". Same old try to squeak into the last playoff spot .... No chance of a Cup ... 47 years of failure .... the BS continues.

And people have the balls to say we don't need a major reset.

**** that.

But that is only frustrating to someone who wants to win a cup. It doesn't matter to the financial vehicle that is the "Toronto Maple Leafs / MLSE inc".

It's Page 40.
I'm finally off the fence.

yeah, who we trade Kessel for is irrelevant.

we get it.

yeah, who we trade Kessel for is irrelevant.
The free cap space will allow us to get alot / fill empty spots in the future.
Who knows what might turn up in the next few years ?
You do get the idea that the Leafs are Cap Maxxed out and still suck ... even with Kessel, non ?

What are you expecting for a:
One dimensonal winger.
can't check
can't block shots
sometimes backchecks
almost zero playoff experience / unproven in the playoffs.
thee major piece of a team that can't make the playoffs.
makes 10 million but zero leadership, can't be a Team Captain.

Don't worry MLSE will keep him.
And Toronto will need a miracle to see a cup while he is here.

Volcanologist plan:

Do Nothing.
Expect Something.
Pretend.
Rinse & Repeat.

Celebrate 50th year of Loserdom.

Do Nothing.

Rinse & Repeat.

Go for 100.

Last I checked "Free Cap Space" wasn't in the top 5 in goals scored over the last 4 seasons. I say top 5 because I don't know how close Tavares was at the end of the season. Phil was top 3 thru out most of this year.

Who knows what might turn up in the next few years ?

You never know, it might even be Phil Kessel?!

You do get the idea that the Leafs are Cap Maxxed out and still suck ... even with Kessel, non ?

I count apx 20 million available this summer. Kessels 8 million a year isn't preventing the Leafs from getting better. They're better having Kessel than not having him.

"goal scored by #25, Free Cap Space, his 28th of the season. Assisted by #14, Mystery Box, and #23, Warm Body. Free Cap Space from Mystery Box and Warm Body, time of the goal 4:18"

Don't spend money. Having money for whoever may come, if they do at all, is worth more than a perennial top of the league goal scorer.

I've learned so much today.

LMFAO. This is so entertaining. Keep the nonsense coming, you are golden.

We're not rebuilding with Jonathan Bernier. Even without Kessel and Phaneuf, I could see us being better than the lottery pick leaders even if we're not making the playoffs. For that reason, trading Kessel should be for a young two-way, top pairing defenceman which we haven't had in ages. Likewise, Dion, if traded, should be for a top flight forward who can become a significant point producer. Someone like Yakupov could even work.

Anyhow, we're too deep to be proficient in tanking. I can see us picking around ~8 just like this season.

Thanks man.
Appreciate it.

It was great watching the Leafs this year.
Everybody outperformed. You could feel the chemistry between everyone, coaches and players alike. Awesome.

I'm kinda just kidding about trading Kessel.
I think the Leafs "are great" and can make a run next year.
Carlyle + Reimer + Clarkson + Lupul + Phaneuf are poised for major breakthroughs.
Just a few small tweaks (trade our prospects for UFAs) and this team is ready for Lord Stanley.
Anyone have any ideas where the Stanley Cup parade should start from ? Someone needs to get planning .... June 2015 is not far away.

Not.
