If The Islanders Never Exististed Who Would You Root For?

Growing up 10 minutes from NVMC I remember sitting in the nosebleeds my first NHL game between the Islanders and the Capitals. Just because of geography I probably would have been a Rangers fan if the Islanders didn't exist

This makes me wonder just how much of an advantage the Knicks base has with only 1 other local team and that team pretty much a non factor until now.

There is no team in sports I hate like the Rangers ainec... however, since I tended to root for the most convenient teams when i grew up (Mets, Jets, Islanders, Nets), it is very likely that I would be sporting a Brian Leetch jersey these days.

Hard to say for sure, maybe the Rangers but I have always liked the way the Bruins played the game, so I will go with them and they are the ONLY New England team I don't hate.

Good question. Not sure that I'd be a Rangers fan. When my dad was a kid back in the 60's he used to watch the Bruins and especially loved it when the used to beat the hell out of the Rangers. On the verge of the dynasty, a friend convinced him to watch the Isles and that sealed the deal.

In all likelihood, I'd be a Bruins fan or maybe a Devils fan if the Isles hadn't come along. If they ceased to exist, I'd move onto the Devils or the Sabres (my fiance's team).

Ugh.

Growing up in Ottawa .. and more importantly for me the timeframe I was growing up in Ottawa ..

Then knowing the elation I felt when the Isles won the 4th Cup and I was the only one that I knew going AGAINST the grain up there.. and seeing how the entire country doubled up against the Isles the following year to root for Gretzky...

I would probably have been an Oilers fan.

pft........................ ......... .....

Damn dude why did you ask this question????????? :)

I would NEVER be a Rangers fan. NEVER!!!

My rooting team would be the Lightning.

Would you really have this level of disdain for the Rangers if the Islanders never existed and you were never an Islanders fan? Sure, the Ooh La la Sasson commercials would have been off-putting, but haven't we put up with worse as Isles fans?

I am NY all the way with my teams. My dad was a Rangers fan. If the Rags were the only NY team, this question is a no-brainer.

If the Islanders never existed, honestly, who would you root for?

A toughie - I might flippantly say 'anyone who plays the Rangers'. But in all likelihood the Rangers until the Devils came into the league. I was a good friend of their first national anthem singer so I would have slid over to them.

I follow the family tree when it comes to rooting for sports teams, so it'd depend on who they rooted for. I'd imagine it would be the Rangers, but I really don't know.

If the team ceased to exist today, I don't know who I'd root for. The Flyers are the closest team geographically to me, so I'd probably watch them the most, but I doubt I'd root for them.

My Dad brought me up on baseball and football, no hockey. However, I learned to love hockey by going to a lot of hockey games for free (incl. meeting players, etc.) as a kid because my best friend's father was an Islander's employee.

So without the Islanders, I almost certainly wouldn't be into hockey at all.

Dad was a flyers fan before the isles existed so probably the flyers. The thought of me being a rags fan makes me sick

I was a habs fan as a young kid (7 to 12 ) then mr potvin , trottier , bossy arrived and I became an isles fan .

so I probably would have remained a habs fan

It probably would have been whatever team Mark Streit would have signed if he hadn't signed with the Isles since he is where my first interest with the Isles came from.

If you asked me this question growing up, I might have said the devils. But since you asked it now, its the Blackhawks!
