If Ovi is about to break the goal record coming down on an empty net goal, does he score or pass it off

Ya, I know I'm being the "well ackchually" guy, and I know it's a small thing, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine.

I don't see it as an issue though. I get it....when you are up by 1, your main goal is to win the game....so keep the puck out of your net. I'm sure people can argue there are better players to be put out to do that, but no big deal, everyone does it. If a guy is sitting on 2 goals, there is no way he's sitting on the bench when there is an EN....even if he's the worst choice defensively. You need your best faceoff guy out there and a lot of teams would throw a 2nd centre out as well, but no big deal having someone out there simply trying to score.

The only issue I had was a time last year where OV was floating in the neutral zone waiting for the puck to come out.....was probably just a bad replay that didn't show enough, so looked worse than it was, but anyway, other than that.....I don't care of guys are out there trying to do nothing put hit the open net.

Absolutely....I remember Gretzky scoring point 1,851, remember him scoring goal number 802.....100%....those moments in time stick out a lot. Gretzky was a one-off though in terms of a lot of milestones.....he was 28 when he scored point number 1,851 (just stupid) and 33 when he scored goal number 802.

When you have guys that are chasing an all-time scoring record, they are simply going to be older players at the end of their careers. If they are not at that stage they are a never before seen type player that blows the entire league up (like Gretzky). Most people would suggest there is no way we'll see anything like that again. It's impossible to imagine someone scoring 2,900pts over an entire/long career, but it's even more impossible to imagine someone doing that in their 20's.

To be fair, that’s just the number of people who wouldn’t want him to shoot the puck. We don’t know what portion of the 87% still consider it a dilemma. They could dislike setting the record that way but still reasonably conclude that they want him to shoot, e.g. for the purpose of winning the game.

But ANY player could win the game that way, and most would be more valuable defensively… there’s no compelling reason for Ovechkin to be that player, in context of trying their hardest to win the game.
 
If I were him I wouldn’t want to be out there for an EN chance in this situation, but to each his own.

Gotta respect his decision, but feel like he should’ve just tried to break it in 1 fewer game played. Like both of them have scored empty net goals before so it shouldn’t really matter, plus it would’ve been the hat trick on home ice.

Have to respect that decision. It’s one thing if he was limping towards the record and was running out of time. He’s still near the height of his goal scoring powers, so I can see why he wants to beat a goalie for #895.

Would you be for or opposed if the Caps traded for an elite playmaking center in Crosby so that Ovi can make a push for 1,000 goals?. The decent-ish defense and all round game Sid brings would also help both him and the Caps win another cup. Win-Win. It would be so nice for the fans to see them on the same team.

lol Ovi is going to Russia next season, he’s not gonna keep playing just because
 
Ovie should skate down on an empty net, as ovie sees Wayne in the corner looking on, ovie stops at the crease, gives Wayne a “suck it” X wwe then scores in the empty net.
