He scored 9 in 2009 and 10 in 2011. If he ever does put it together consistently, how is he not "that kind of player"?.. How many goals do you expect from one defenseman?
Doesn't that answer your own question? Anyway, I'm not talking about defensemen who put up decent points, I mean guys that the other team actually has to plan against, a true offensive threat. Girardi got 10 goals once, is he too that kind of player?
Every cup team post-lockout has had at least one of that kind of defensemen, except Carolina. I've never once said or implied that I don't think he will/can better, I've just acknowledged what he needs to get better at. There's like this weird hockey version of Manifest destiny, where he's simply Brian Leetch in the making, so we can't criticize him. I hope he get's that good. He gets a lot of criticism because he does have a lot of potential, and because the franchise desperately needs, and has needed, someone to fill the void left by Leetch.
