Me personally I would be livid..................at Canada! You can't rely on another team to help you get into the final. It doesn't matter, since Canada did their part to get themselves in. But if they blew the Finnish game then it would have been their own fault for blowing a 4-0 lead. I like how McDavid after the game was not happy with how they finished the game. He didn't like it. That's good. It goes to show you they know they can do better to hold leads. Man, they have had a lead in each game, two of them quite significant as they were by multiple goals in the 3rd period. This would be their own doing if they needed US to beat Sweden. It is not another team's problem if you can't get in yourself.

Back in 1996 Ron Wilson was watching the Canada/Sweden overtime semi final and he said he jumped off the couch when he saw Canada won. He wanted it to be Canada. He wanted to beat the best, and they did. It would be like if the Oilers played the Rangers in the 1984 Cup final and not the Islanders. No, you want the defending champs! That's my thought anyway.

The Swedish coach in 2006 openly contemplated tanking against Slovakia in the final round-robin game of the tournament to avoid playing Canada in the quarterfinals. Sweden lost to Slovakia 3-0, and drew Switzerland in the quarterfinal as a result. Canada lost to Russia in the opposite bracket, and Sweden ended up taking the gold medal.

I think that's exactly what you were referring to, no?
Exactly. You summed it up perfectly.

Exactly. You summed it up perfectly.
If like Sweden they took 0 shot during a whole 2 minutes of 5-3 power play after talking about loosing on purpose... (and again after), then yes people would have. Taken only 17 shots when trailing....

He wanted it to be Canada.
That my feeling, they want to beat Canada in the final more than winning this 4 nation affair would be my guess, very different than Sweden strategy, that was a round robin game that only determied determine a quarter final opponent and the goal was to win the Olympic gold medal (Fins a perfect opponent for doing it).

And now everyone knows what it is like being an Oilers fan where despite having the likes of McDavid and Draisaitl, you can't buy an ENG and you gotta clench your ass until the final buzzer!

Well not “everyone”, but yes, some people would do that.

Humans have a natural “storytelling” bias that has a hard time coping with events occurring that are random or otherwise unexplained without some type of story that has “reason”, generally a very basic one with predictably nefarious undertones that follows along whatever other biases they have.

What we do know is that the game meant nothing to the US yesterday given their standing. That’s a certainty. If the game starts with such an absence of motivation, I think anyone believing they could form a deeper reason out of a loss is apt to fool themselves about their ability to divulge intentions throughout their daily lives.

2010: Team Canada lost to Team USA at the group game => Canada won the Olympics

2025: Team Canada lost to Team USA at the group game => Team Canada win the 4 Nations?
