If Boston loses to Florida, SHOULD they blow it up?

The thread is redundant when you make the second round. They did not finish last in the league and are retooling. Experts picked them to not make the playoffs, let them enjoy the ride instead of this disguised shade.

If they want to keep going with what they have, I think they have to make a splash for a high end center for immediate cup contention pruproses.

Or they can more or less be status quo and continue to make money and host some playoff games for the time being.

close to 25M in Cap spending with expiring contracts. There could be a lot of turn over anyway, but the core of Swayman, McAvoy, Lindholm, Lohrie, Pasta, Coyle, Zacha, is worth adding to to slot forwards in their proper slots.
A lot of the B's problems comes from not having enough offense. Goaltending won't be an issue, even if Ullmark is traded. Bussi's been very good in the AHL for 2 years. The D corp is solid and if Lohrie is as legit as he seems for 21yo, he could be the top offensive D man as soon as next year.
The forwards are the problem. One top line player out of 12 starting forwards. the lines this year were basically balanced, but not in a good way.

But there is no reason or much value in blowing it up.

Note the question, not "WILL" they blow it up, which is a very different question, but should they? They obviously got very close to winning the whole thing in 2019 (lost in Game 7 at home as a favorite to St. Louis)

Since then:

2019-20: Lost second round to Lightning (4-1)
2020-21: Lost second round to Islanders (4-2)
2021-22: Lost first round to Hurricanes (4-3)
2022-23: Lost first round to Panthers (4-3)

Notable retirements: Zdeno Chara, David Krejci, Tuuka Rask, Patrice Bergeron

Brad Marchand turns 36 years old tomorrow (May 11th).

Right now the series with Florida is FAR from over. Obviously if they come back, they should not do anything from a blow it up standpoint.. However, if Florida ultimately does prevail, is the writing on the wall that Boston's sustained period of contention is over? In which case, should they make an attempt to salvage what they can from an asset perspective, or keep riding it out as far as it'll go?

No.

They’re the Bruins - you don’t blow up a team that’s been to the second round three of the last five years.

Blowing it up works like 40% of the time and often takes ages. Would rather watch a consistent playoff team every year

NO. That team has it figured out… how to play as a TEAM. I spelled out their demise last teams and this year… egg is on my face. They just keep getting the right kinds of players who compete and know how to play a team game. Florida has their number and is a very good team on their own merits. Florida has the advantage of being in a no state income tax state but at least they don’t play the LTIR cheat like a couple other no state income tax teams.

This thread is strange. Bs were among the league leaders all season long.
Ytf would you “blow it up” if FL wins 2 more games before losing 3.
Strange, indeed.

For goodness sake, they’re sustainably one of the best teams in the league. Why in the world would you blow that up?

15/16 lose in the playoffs every year. It’s hard to win a 7-game series against a good team, let alone 4 in a row. A bunch of people are going to go to their grave as lifelong fans without ever celebrating a Cup, that’s just the way it is in a 32-team league. As long as you’ve got a good shot at it, you keep firing until the chamber is empty and let the results fall out as they will.

Bruins are in a good position to retool. They have a good team. You don't blow that up. You make changes.

Is it that common nowadays that you "blow" teams up? Trading away good players you're almost never gonna get good value for them. You probably keep it going as long as you have good players under contract really.

Be careful what you wish for. I speak from experience.

Some teams think you need to be horrible for 5-10 years to draft top 10 and hope you can rebuild from there.
Some teams don't.

Chicago is a good example of the former.
Boston is a good example of the latter.

Only one of em is in the second round and playing above their heads

Chicago had a modern day dynasty. Boston can't make it past the second round

They have $20m in cap space this summer with only Swayman and Debrusk to re-sign. Make the Ullmark trade and they likely fill some of those roster holes with guys early on the payscale.

I'm not sure they can stay in the hunt every year, but they'll be a good team for quite a while. Tough to see them committing to a full on rebuild.

Edit: bruins fans why are we engaging in a n in-playoffs thread, with other team’s fans , about retools? F*** that. Yeah it’ll be almost impossible to beat this Florida team. They are probably the best team in the league.

But save rebuild talk for the Bs forum of other general forum after the playoffs. In part because that’s where the discussion belongs. And in part because some “fans” are dbags trolling others.
