This got zero supplemental discipline.

That was in the midst of a fight and happened in a split second. Punches after a player is down during a fight happen all the time.

Cross checks to the head of a guy who is prone on the ice do not happen all the time.

Anyone defending this move by Nurse is just being a homer imo. It was a stupid, dangerous play that deserves a suspension. Incredibly selfish and if he misses any playoff games they’re essentially conceded with Ekholm also out.

I'm guessing 3 game suspension for Nurse, especially given his history with the league.

There may have been worse incidents around the league that went unpunished but this was a lack of discipline from a veteran who knew how short handed the club is. Rather unfortunate thinking.

Keep in mind that the NHL at an official level measures playoff games as double the suspension value of a regular season game. That was the justification for the one game on Pietrangelo slash.

The Nurse thing is nowhere close to the value of a three or five game suspension, which is what it effectively be if they hit him up in the playoffs. There is no precedent for that level of penalty for what he did.

Again, that doesn’t matter because there was no precedent for Nurse taking the playoff suspension two years ago and there was no precedent for McDavid getting 3 for what he did earlier in the year. Having said that, suspending Nurse in the playoffs is a leap even beyond that.

I could see 3 if it didn't include 2 playoff games. The last multi-game playoff suspension for on-ice activities goes back to 2021 where we had the Mark Scheifele Charge on Evans and when Reeves tried the Derek Chauvin manoeuver on Ryan Graves. Prior to those two the only ones dating back to 2016 were either Kadri being a psycho or Tom Wilson doing Tom Wilson things.

Maybe no suspension for Nurse but given how short handed they are on defense, more discipline should have been shown on his part.

Still pisses me off that Nurse got suspended for the same number of games as Pietrangelo for fighting a guy who immediately threw his gloves off and started throwing as Nurse glided towards him, and who according to Nurse asked him to fight numerous times throughout the game. Meanwhile Pietrangelo legit tried to break Draisaitl's wrist 2 seconds after he scored an empty netter.

League is a joke at this point if Nurse gets anything beyond 1 game.

Exactly. Also - knowing we've got some bite if they want to take it to the street also likely helps us out some too.

Lest we forget that every single series we've played against these clowns has us leaving with a major McDrai injury going into the second round. Here's the warning shot, and know that the big boys in Kane and Frederic will be back with vengeance come game 1 of the playoffs.

This is the best angle of the incident. It was worthy of a five and a game. But based on similar or worse incidents around the league, it is not suspension worthy. But as soon as it happened I knew we were screwed. Just the way it is with the league and us, whether it’s power plays, draft picks, suspensions, etc, they have an agenda against us, and it’s not even a hidden one.
