Post-Game Talk: If a game is played and it’s a shitshow, does it count?

Well, that’s not great…

$5000 fine just like Kempe got for the even more dangerous slew foot on McDavid. The fact this is even being discussed based on how nothing the penalty was on replay is absurd.

So dumb by Nurse

Hopefully Walman and Stecher are good to go, or else theyre starting game 1 missing 4 of the top 6 defenseman
Which sucks because LA is a crazy good home team and then being the home team for the playoffs we can’t afford to go into any game on the road already behind.

No not because Oilerz. Because Nurse.

Such an idiotic decision in a nothing game. It obviously deserves a suspension.
it doesn't "deserve" a suspension...Chatfield got nothing for this takedown...and it was much worse

Well, that’s not great…

Binnington on Perry IMO was similar but a bit more worse than what Nurse did to Byfield. Binnington blocked to the back of the head and then jumping on Perry while he was down was suspension worthy too if this is one.

There is nothing about this game that will help LA in game 1. Its a total write off unless they ice the same lineup.
In fact, I would argue, the Oilers benefited from seeing LA's strategy on the powerplay; in particular, their use of 5 forwards, all of whom also kill penalties.

As the guys on GYB pointed out, that is going to be a tired powerplay unit, given they are doing double-time on the PP and PK.

Maybe even more interestingly, as they GYB guys also pointed out, LA's use of 5 forwards is an ideal set-up for the Oilers to use McDavid on the PK. Even the best defensemen have trouble containing McDavid and staying above him, never mind a forward. If LA wants to use 5 forwards, then McDavid can attack that top guy and will absolutely generated short-handed chances. Adrian Kempe stands zero chance trying to contain McDavid on the blue line. Zero chance.

Even without Connor our PK is pretty deadly shorthanded. We can take this series on special teams again. I don’t see what LA is going do to make up that massive swing. Kuemper is going to have to stand on his head.

I agree. If they can't beat the Oilers on special teams, then they can't beat the Oilers, period. And on Kuemper, he has had a great regular season, but maybe people forget that he won the cup with only a .902 sv%, and he did that on one of the best teams in modern history. He's no .936 Quick or .930 Crawford. And the Kings arent the Panthers who won with a .906.

I remember when we played the avs we were actually all over Kuemper too. Francouz came in and stole the show.

Not surprised. Nurse has a knack for making dumb decisions at unnecessary times. Guy forgets hes been in the league for 10 years. Fake tough guy.
Nurse definitely tends to make dumb decisions and putting himself in position to be suspended for a playoff game or more when your team needs you the most is probably tops on that list but Nurse is not a "fake" tough guy, no way.

If Nurse gets suspended for a playoff game the organization should come out swinging. Show all the other similar or more severe incidents that either didn't end in suspension or a lesser suspension and ask the press to find out why it's different for us only.

We won't though.

I agree completely.

It isn't a good thing to beat the brakes off of your opponent that is dressed as a half team a week before the bullets actually start flying. Especially when most of the game was played on special teams.

Until the game broke open for them due to a combination of powerplays and bad goaltending, I thought the game was fairly evenly played with goaltending being the only real reason they were up. For a group that pretty clearly circled this game on their calendar, that isn't a good thing. Was a similar story in LA a few weeks ago as well without 29 and 97.

The only way we lose a matchup between McDavid - Draisaitl - Hyman and Kopitar - Kempe - Fiala is if our goaltending implodes or our power play stinks. There is no other way to lose this matchup.

Judging from GDT people finding out Arvid=Yamamoto. Like I've been saying. I missed 35mins tonight of Arvid flying through the air and losing his balance and flying into the boards when not giving the puck away or passing it to nowhere. The guy is a random molecule. I don't want him in topsix in playoffs.
Oh, you and I both know Draisaitl will be saddled with him come Game 1.
