The idiot is probably the same idiot who denied Griffey Jr. I detailed what should happen to him on another thread because it's bullshit that a f***ing reliever gets a unanimous vote while Ichiro, Griffey Jr. (and likely Pujols when he's eligible, because why the f*** wouldn't he have some idiot ruin things?) don't.

Speaking as a Cardinals fan who has absolutely no dog in this fight and respects Ichiro's career.

I had the same question. There's been a number of players that deserve to be unanimous selections but there's always some dumb mother f***er that leaves them off for whatever reason.

Also think Beltran and maybe Jones get in next year, nobody else in this group looks all that close

Nothing, though in Schilling's case it comes down to (literally) politics. Not going to dig into it much further but it is what it is in that regard.
Being an obnoxious asshole about his politics, yeah. Plenty of people with similar ideas in the MLB and in the HoF.

That being said, I am also very surprised that CC got in so quick... and at all.

Sabthia lucky because there aren't a lot of candidates this year who aren't being "delayed". Nice to see Wagner get in. Shouldn't have waited until his last ballot. If he was good enough to get in, eventually, then what is the point of delaying all these guys.

Congrats to them!

Ichiro misses out by 1 vote on unanimous election. Who is the idiot?

Yep. My guess it will be a dodger writer

On the flip side the guys who we know did ROIDS to improve their game are losing out runway to get in

250 wins/3k SOs is what got sabathia in

+ a Cy Young, ALCS MVP.

Pinstripes is what got him in. 1st ballot is a joke

From 2006-2016 he's 4th in fWAR among pitchers, essentially a top 5 pitcher for a decade. The only guys ahead of him are two first ballot locks (Verlander, Kershaw) and King Felix who very may well make it in too.

CC was likely helped by this being a fairly weak class of first timers. As for the at all part, surprised. I think everyone knew he'd be getting in at some point.

Jeter as well.

True with Jeter as well, but I can get how a rival would not vote him unanimously. Hell, I can even understand Pujols not being unanimous out of "steroids concerns" (which isn't true and has never even had the slighest bit of credibility, but someone will do it, I just know it).

But Ichiro? One of the nicest, most talented guys in the game? Griffey Jr., who would've easily had 700+ if he had stayed healthy? Those guys I don't get.

A lot of the time its guys who believe if Ruth wasn't voted in at 100%, nobody should be (ignoring his year was the first for the HOF, so there was a tremendous backlog of guys) or ones that think "well the majority are going to vote this guy in, so I may as well not pick him and select someone who I think is deserving"

And yet they felt comfortable enough to let a reliever - a reliever - have a unanimous vote. There is no way on God's green earth to justify Rivera getting a unanimous vote and Ichiro, Griffey Jr., and Jeter not.

The dude who didn't vote for Ichiro reasoning is one of couple things "not first ballot worth lol" "I knew his was in so I needed that 10th spot for Player X" or just a flat out hater.
