Confirmed with Link: Ian Laperriere will rejoin the organization as an advisor to Hockey Operations

I’m really not sure what you’re going for here? But I think it’s clear we told him he wasn’t qualified to be coach of the Flyers and in fact wasn’t even impressive enough to continue coaching the Phantoms. We threw him a pity bone.

I doubt he gets an NHL job anytime soon, but I could certainly see him getting another AHL job. He’s qualified enough for that, especially given how teams love to recycle coaches.

But of course he’s gonna take a cushy hockey ops job with the flyers till that next role comes through. Who wouldn’t?
What I was going for is....

This F'n Franchise just can't help itself to gift jobs to guys who don't belong around after doing the job he did in Lehigh. Don't tell me he made the playoffs this year and won a round. It's the AHL like 6 teams miss the playoffs and the first round is not a full series.

At least we got clarity on the status of the rebuild: it's in its "next phase."

“I want to thank Ian for his tireless work in Lehigh Valley for the last four seasons,” Briere said in a statement.

“He not only led the Phantoms in a return to the playoffs, but provided crucial development to several of our prospects. I am excited to welcome him back to the Flyers so he can continue to provide his insight in helping our team as we enter the next phase of the rebuild.”

He’d be collecting a paycheck next season with or without this job. As far as I know he’s got another year on his HC contract
From a Phantoms press release:
"June 19, 2024

Allentown, PA – The Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Philadelphia Flyers have announced that Ian Laperrière has signed a two-year contract extension as head coach of the Phantoms through the 2025-26 season."

You're right. They were going to have to pay him next year anyway. At least now he has time to find another organization that might want his services. He was finished here.

is the next phase of the rebuild, to actually start a rebuild ?

🤣🤣🤣

Ok who is Chris Rock? David Spade? Kevin James?
Chris Rock is Keith Jones. The funniest one.
David Spade is Rick Tocchet. Personable, but can be tough on you and standoffish as needed. Long career, went away from the group, but came back.
Kevin James is Lappy. Obviously very nice, can once in awhile be "self" funny, and whose body of work fell off a cliff in terms of quality.

Lappy truly is a Renaissance man. Nothing he can’t do. We are blessed.

Someone needs to explain to me how chatgpt came up with this after entering a really simple prompt  it even added the word BONK and spoke about shitty coaching drills itself to tease me even more

Once upon a time in a bustling city full of dreams, there lived a young boy named Ian who loved nothing more than playing hockey. He practiced every day until one magical winter, he was chosen to play for his favorite team — the Philadelphia Flyers! Ian zipped across the ice, his heart full of joy, until one day — bonk! — a wild puck hit him right in the face. Though it hurt, Ian got up with a grin, more determined than ever. But as time passed, his hockey days came to an end, and Ian had to hang up his skates.

After retiring, Ian wanted to stay with the Flyers, so he tried all sorts of jobs with the team. First, he gave coaching a whirl, but he kept confusing the drills. Then he tried being a broadcaster, but his mic was always off. He even gave mascot dancing a go, but he tripped over his furry feet! No matter what he tried, it seemed nothing quite fit. Still, the Flyers knew Ian had a heart as big as the rink and never gave up, always showing up with a smile and a story.

Just when Ian thought he might have to leave the team forever, the Flyers called him into the office with a surprise — they made him an official advisor! Now, he shares his wisdom with young players, cheers the loudest from the bench, and helps the team with big decisions. Ian may not have been the best coach or dancer, but he became something even more special: the heart and spirit of the Flyers, proving that sometimes the best roles come when you least expect them. And from that day on, Ian helped others chase their dreams — puck bumps and all!

#spoiler..

if Toch. had said NO, Lappy is your new HC of the Flyers..
That might make sense if they praised him for his job w/ the Phantoms and gave him a raise or a vital role on Toc’s staff but they literally told him “thanks for everything but we want you nowhere near our young talent.”

I’d certainly prefer if I was a fan of a team where Lappy never gets handed the AHL gig in the first place, but given the reality of how we do business, this is a nothing burger of a move. Actually a positive development all things considered. Lappy was removed as head coach of our AHL affiliate and it wasn’t at the cost of having him coach the big squad or become an assistant to the big squad, or have an influential role in the FO of the big squad. We just created a cushy job so he has a soft landing. As flyers things go, this is a big win.

I get that. But who cares if he was deserving or not? Why do I care if Comcast decides they’d like to waste some of their money on alumni relations? The important thing is Lappy will no longer be coaching our young talent (i use that “talent” word very liberally). He didn’t fail upwards into an open position that would’ve otherwise been filled by a qualified candidate, they just created a cushy role for him until he finds his next coaching gig, cause they like him. Not how I’d spend my $$$ if I were Roberts, but also far from a major concern.
