people keep saying we create a hole by trading loui , which i agree , but it doesnt mean we cant find a player to replace that spot.. we have assets that can be parted with.. boeddker is a ufa take some of the pieces you get from loui and trade for him(as long as you are going to sign him, id much rather give him loui's $) . bring back versteeg, etc. .. its like once we trade loui you cant trade for anybody else?.. makes no sense..

That's not a good article...It's like he just googled UFAs and put them on a list. Nikitin can't even crack Edmonton's lineup with injuries, Coburn is in Tampa. Don't see why either Florida or Dallas would subtract from themselves of real pieces.

Not targeting you since you just bring the articles for people to see, but he should have maybe taken a second look at it before submitting it

appears the Jets will be looking to re-sign Buff

all the Loui to preds talk makes sense but I would hope that given the uncertainty around vesey signing they wouldn't opt to take that unless they knew he would stay.... i could see pred 1st + B prospect + the rights to vesey being a good deal for the B's but just the 1st and rights to vesey makes me leary as there's already a lot of speculation around where he'll sign. the best asset management would be to turn LE21 into whatever picks prospects you can right now and use those in a package at trade deadline for D help. you can't hope to swing both moves in one day.

DS also has to be looking for suitors to take Connolly/morrow/trotman as well for picks or bottom 6 forwards.

if they keep LE21 then the overwhelming solution would be to move seidenberg in the offseason to free up 4M in cap space to bring in a top end D man.

I wonder if the Jets would be interested in a UFA for UFA deal with other moving parts but based around ladd for loui? throw in connolly/morrow and see if they'll insert myers into the deal?

not sure about that but having not paid a ton of attention to the Jets this year, had no idea how bad things appear to have gotten

Ladd huh? Another sticky situation with a 30 year old and an expiring contract. Curious if hes looking at Loui numbers as well in his new contract. Looks like hes currently at 4.4 which isn't bad at all but I would assume hes getting a raise.

I do like his style of play however..... Thinking out loud. Don't mind me

If I'm trading with Winnpeg for Loui, the trade talk starts with Scheifele, IMO. If I am trading with Nashville, it starts with Ryan Ellis.

That may be too much to ask, but those are quality returns on their own.

I think I've concluded that not trading Loui, based on the suggested returns, is irresponsible. It's extremely irresponsible to keep him "for a run", but I think signing him even at a fair price is irresponsible. I say that because this team needs every nickel they can get to invest in defense, and I can't imagine that paying essentially UFA prices for a winger is a better use of their money. When you factor in the return from a trade being potentially high I think it's an easy call.

If you let Loui walk for nothing, it isn't REALLY nothing. You gain cap space. You can use that cap space on someone like Boedeker. Or Buff. Or Yandle. Or on an RFA offersheet.

Letting him walk for nothing isn't ideal.

But its not the end of days, either.

I hope we aren't pursuing expiring UFA's.

The suggest returns by Bruins fans are very different than real life returns.

I think the Bruins have tried to get Ryan Ellis in the past. With a Eriksson/Ellis swap, both teams would be dipping into a team strength to shore up a team weakness. I guess it would come down to what the extras are in making a deal like that work.

Unfortunately I think an Erat for Forsberg swap happened one too many times for any team to do this anymore.

Nashville has already dipped into that reserve. Can't see them decimating it.

Also, I don't think Ellis is the guy we're likely to target either.

If you keep him for the playoffs and then let him walk, you are turning down the opportunity to add potentially two younger players you'll control for a number of years for the increased chances of a Cup run. I think you need a lot better NHL defense to even contemplate a "Cup run". Keeping Loui is investing in this team because of the opportunity cost, and that's a bad investment.

The whole thread. I especially like when people post the line ups next and the year after. It's harder now more than ever to trade.

but it would be for nothing, you can get a 1st plus one high end prospect or two B level prospects and still have the cap space in the offseason... if you keep him and he walks you lose the potential to add the trade chips at the draft. that would be poor asset management. he's not the kind of guy who makes us a cup contender... he's good and i like having him but 6 years 6M no thanks,.... turn him into trade chips for a dman.... trade him now and try and flip what you get on the 29th for a dman from anaheim if their on the outside looking in.
