I don't think Mike Grier is going to have a job next year.

Sure, now we’re starting to look at the results a little bit more, but the Sharks haven’t been expected to win games to this point and frankly likely won’t make the playoffs next year either.

It was going to be a long rebuild. Grier doing what he is supposed to do. But, the HC are going to be the sacrificial lambs in this process. Is War likely to be the HC who leads them to the PO or will be have endured too much losing to keep his job as it does seem like they will have another low finish next season or two as they aim to infuse some of their D prospects which requires patience.

He’s in a deep rebuild. Add to that he was able to unload Erik Karlsson, with only 1.5 in retention, while getting the Pens first in return and he’s going a masterful job. Imo he’s got 2 more years of rebuild left before calls for his head come in. Five years should be enough time.
 
People also should understand that he didn't take over the team when it was at the bottom, with a blank slate and had to start climbing back up. He took over a team that was falling over a cliff halfway through that fall. He had to first make sure the landing wasn't an explosion and stabilize and clear the slate. Which is all he has done so far and all that could have been reasonably expected. Now, he has to start the climb back up and should be judged for how that goes.

The people who somehow expected him to join a franchise in a freefall and instantly slam the brakes and start turning it around are the people I expect to call him "Mike Gear" or something.

They guy had 5 pts for Sens and hasnt done a thing in playoffs.
Hardly an upgrade over Noah friggin Gregor who was a throw in in the deal.

Says a lot if thats the worst Grier did.

The man turned Walman and Ceci into very positive returns after getting them for practically nothing.
Dickinson era is just around the corner so defense wouldnt be too much of a worry when they are ready to make some noise.

Grier didn't even take over a rebuild, he took over a team hopelessly in denial about its utterly dire state, that had to resort to a fig leaf of resignation to fire its flailing and now-incapable general manager (and put a hopelessly incompetent placeholder in charge), and had a stable of nothing except Eklund and a bunch of horrific contracts and nothing prospects.

Tbf i recall Zett being a slow starter with the Sharks after the Meier trade too, don't write him off based on this season, you'll love him by end of next season. (Ott fans anyway) it's the trade that made many SJ fans rub their stomaches after an unanticipated gut punch.

Not to say he was a part of any longterm solution, but he was a hard worker with some talent, worth every penny

The Sharks will have an embarrassment of riches after the draft, its time for them to surround their prospects so they can learn pro habits and how to win. And get a coach who is good with young players.
 
He's done a great job. I don't know why Zetterlund was traded and maybe he could've gotten more for Blackwood, but these are really minor in the grand scheme. Grier understood the assignment.
 
He was hired just a few days before the 2022 NHL draft, and traded down from pick #11 for pick #27, 34 and 45.
With those picks they selected Filip Bystedt, Cameron Lund and Mattias Hävelid.
Arizona picked Connor Geekie with that pick, who was later traded to Tampa Bay Lightning.

They could have picked Mateychuk, Nazar, Lekkerimäki.

Or just picked Kulich instead of Bystedt, who was a reach. He was projected to go in the 40s or later.

Time will tell if that was the right move or not, but it's not looking great right now
