I dont have time to play video games but i dont regret it

I still think recent years have been weaker than when you look back at years like 2000-2010, 2004 coming to mind but there are others.

Then there’s also the shitty trends that feel like they keep getting shittier, like:

-release unfinished, buggy, broken games
-microtransactions, battle passes, expensive DLC, etc.
-mindless checklist games (usually open world with a bunch of half assed things thrown on a map)
-challenges/achievements (especially daily ones) where the main goal is just to get you coming back and get addicted/feel compelled to play more
-unlockable shit that people can just buy
-easy games that aren’t challenging at all and don’t feel rewarding
-games generally taking less risks and having less character because of following monotonous trends
-raising the price on games
Because gaming has changed and the cost of everything has gone up. That has led to some shitty things for sure, but people acting like great games aren’t released anymore are just wrong. It seems like more games are made now more than ever with indies, just don’t focus on the AAA stuff.

I agree. I think the biggest issue is that most of the “great” mainstream games fall victim to some of these issues, particularly making vanilla, safe, easy, “movie like” games, at the expense of taking risks, being creative, challenging, etc.

I think that's true across all entertainment.

The best music is not what's charting. The best movies are not the Hollywood blockbusters. The best books are not the NY Times bestsellers.

you guys just need to prioritize your time better, I've allegedly been an adult for nearly 30 years and still can usually scrape up 10-15 hours of gaming time a week and probably 5-8 hours for Lego.

No offense, but how? I get up around 6am, work for 9ish hours, exercise for about an hour, make dinner, and cleanup. Then I'm too tired to put much thought into anything in the 3 hours I have left before going to bed.

I work from home, I wake up 10 mins before I start, work 7-330, take care of the family stuff/dinner between 330-730, then I can play from 8-12 a few times a week, and on Fridays I can stay up later. Weekends are wildcards, if the wife works I might get a long stretch of gaming in or none at all, depends on what else is going on

People saying gaming sucks now but you need to specify here, AAA gaming sucks. There's a lot of amazing indie games coming out all the time. Even the AA scene is seeing a bit of a comeback. Plus there's just more games out there. Companies are dumb for raising pricing and forcing all these micro-transacations because there's just more games to compete with. The classics aren't going away.

Why should people spend $70+microtransactions when you know the AAA gaming scene releases broken messes? You can go buy The Witcher 3, which still looks amazing, for less than the price of a sandwich when it's on sale. You can buy so many amazing classics for dirt cheap during sale times.

The problem isn't gaming is entering it's worst era, it's that the only games you play is the heavily marketed big budget slop instead of doing something so simple like going to a dedicated gaming board and saying, "I like games X, Y, and Z, what would you recommend I play?" Or even just Googling "Best <genre> games of last 10 years." You'll find so many amazing titles so quickly and never get around to playing all these amazing games.

Just for the sake of experimenting, I searched "best action platformers of the last 10 years." The second result was a Reddit post where the top comment, ignoring all other comments throughout the thread, had 31 games series, not singular titles, series of games recommended. That's just one post of one genre. There's no way people can't easily find new games to play.
I'd honestly be completely fine on a steady rotation of: Halo MCC/Infinite, Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Red Dead 2, and Breath of the Wild on repeat until TW4 comes out. Throw in some occasional EA NHL franchise mode when I've got a hockey itch. No desire to jump into a AAA money grab and no necessity to with the huge timeline of games available to me.
