I'd much prefer an amateur tournament. Looser, more freewheeling style of play, and a just bit more electricity than when the NHL guys are involved.

NO
Sorry but curling is the second best sport in the winter olympics behind hockey. Anyone who doesn't agree can GTFO.
Just not a big fan of shutting the NHL down for 17 days 2/3 of the way through the season. I get the games themselves will be an interesting diversion, and I get that since the Russians competed in the USA and Canada hockey Olympics, they are almost owed a 'home Olympics' at this point.
That said, this whole diversion has become too much of a diversion for my taste. I get that NBC and the CBC have a vested interest in the Games, so they are going to promote them in-game. But Sam and Joe (especially Sam and Joe!) and most of the other home team announcers have also gone on ad nauseum about who will be playing with who during the Olympics. Enough already.
And as a Ranger fan, this is not coming at a good time - the team is on a bit of a roll, and a two and a half week hiatus is not what we need right now. Add to that Hank's history of how he's played after the last two Olympics, wondering what injury Callahan will incur that will once again hamper his playoff effectiveness, more chances for Nash to get hit in the head, not to mention the overall injury component - somehow the teams chasing us in the Metro (Carolina, Columbus, Philadelphia, Washington and NJ) all have less players going over there than we do.
Seems like an NHL playoffs excuse waiting to happen.
I'm too much of an NHL (and Ranger) fan to get all that caught up in a 7:30 AM US (or Canada) versus whoever game. Here's hoping all the countries represented with Rangers are knocked out early so they can get home as quickly as possible and get back to their real jobs.
This is a business model that's run it's course.
Yes.
I know my wife, who hates that I watch 70-80 Ranger games a year, will be up at 3am with me rooting on the good ol' US of A!!

What are Australians to do?I am a fan of all hockey, not just the Rangers. In fact, I get somewhat bored watching 82 games of the regular season. Olympic hockey is great, amazing actually. Its a not refresher to the season and truly exciting. A time to be a real patriot and cheer for your country.
I'm cannot wait for the Olympics! Honestly, not just the hockey, but the politics involved is pretty intense as well.
