I am a fan of all hockey, not just the Rangers. In fact, I get somewhat bored watching 82 games of the regular season. Olympic hockey is great, amazing actually. Its a not refresher to the season and truly exciting. A time to be a real patriot and cheer for your country.

Its a whole different feeling.

Its great for the players, its great for the league, its even better for fans.

Players love it. They wouldnt go if it wasnt an amazing experience. Players who dont make it get a vacation from the 82 brutal season.

The League may not necessarily like their players going for safety reasons but the truth of the matter is that the NHL knows that this tournament is great for the game. 2010 Olympics brought in new hockey fans and that is why the league is looking into the World Cup of Hockey. Yes, for those who have not heard. The latest IIHF, IOC, NHL agreement not only calls for a 2018 Olympics but also the likelihood of the league adopting the World Cup again and having NHL vs KHL teams again.

And the fans love it. I have not really heard of much complaint about the Olympics. Yea some fans are scared our players will get hurt. But its the price you pay. Players can get hurt tomorrow playing in a stupid, worthless NHL game against the Panthers or Oilers or something and their up 5-0 and still you might see injuries. They can be walking outside to practice and ice could have them slip and fall. Play golf and get hurt...
It happens.

I am just more excited to see Olympic hockey. International events are always great. Seeing different cultures, different styles.

I love Olympic hockey I just hate the fact that Lundquist will be playing for the other team(along with many other Rangers) so I don't know who to root for but just enjoy it cause you don't have a say in it regardless and if it's too early for ya then DVR it!

I just want to enjoy the games and root for Rangers when they play, Im sure if anyone scores past Lundqvist it will make for good banter when they return home.

Just not a big fan of shutting the NHL down for 17 days 2/3 of the way through the season. I get the games themselves will be an interesting diversion, and I get that since the Russians competed in the USA and Canada hockey Olympics, they are almost owed a 'home Olympics' at this point.

That said, this whole diversion has become too much of a diversion for my taste. I get that NBC and the CBC have a vested interest in the Games, so they are going to promote them in-game. But Sam and Joe (especially Sam and Joe!) and most of the other home team announcers have also gone on ad nauseum about who will be playing with who during the Olympics. Enough already.

And as a Ranger fan, this is not coming at a good time - the team is on a bit of a roll, and a two and a half week hiatus is not what we need right now. Add to that Hank's history of how he's played after the last two Olympics, wondering what injury Callahan will incur that will once again hamper his playoff effectiveness, more chances for Nash to get hit in the head, not to mention the overall injury component - somehow the teams chasing us in the Metro (Carolina, Columbus, Philadelphia, Washington and NJ) all have less players going over there than we do.

Seems like an NHL playoffs excuse waiting to happen.

I'm too much of an NHL (and Ranger) fan to get all that caught up in a 7:30 AM US (or Canada) versus whoever game. Here's hoping all the countries represented with Rangers are knocked out early so they can get home as quickly as possible and get back to their real jobs.

This is a business model that's run it's course.

The Olympics grow sports world wide. That's why announcers are talking about it, even without an affiliation to NBC/CBC who have the rights to the games. There's a responsibility of those that work in hockey to grow the game.

As for the 7:30am start that's just east coast mentality. The winter classic was on at 7am Hawaii this yr.... I still watched.

As far as injuries, streaks, etc. it is what it is. Every NHL team has to deal with it, the NYR aren't the only ones with players/streaks in jeopardy.

Yes.

I know my wife, who hates that I watch 70-80 Ranger games a year, will be up at 3am with me rooting on the good ol' US of A!!

yeah I may have to tell my gf she's not allowed to watch the Bachelor on those Mondays :)

she won't be pleased

Other than injury to our players im most concerned about all of the NHL players and Olympic athletes' safety.

As long as everyone goes home to their respective countries unharmed from terrorism ill be happy. Its hard for me to put trust in the Russian government in that they are doing everything they can, using unlimited resources to protect these games from terrorism.

Absolutely, this the last NHL participation. World Cup (similar to FIFA) played in NHL offseason will be a replacement for it. IIHF will have no choice but agree.

The board here is a typical example of what well orchestrated NBC propaganda can do to public.

I can't wait for Feb 27!!!!

What are Australians to do?

I'm cannot wait for the Olympics! Honestly, not just the hockey, but the politics involved is pretty intense as well.
