Devils forwards had one of their best two-way games of the year and Oilers without McDavid were much like the Devils on Friday against the Flames; soft and content to play on the perimeter.

Not sure that equates to a "monster game" from Luke Hughes.

Did you watch the game? Hughes was a beast defending the net and on breakouts. Legit saved a goal with a stick check.

It was a weird game. Bled great chances all through the first 2 periods bad. First period though they were also creating a lot of great looks. Not as many as them but there was like no defense played either way. Second period was really bad as we didn’t really create anything but still bled. 3rd was good. Pretty quiet period. I think we mostly shut it down in the 3rd well and got the better of the quality chances

This is the kind of game where we almost certainly didn't deserve to win but get the W and bank the points. We aren't usually on the positive side of those.

That’s a tough matchup on the road. Hischier was above 50% on expected goals and scoring chances and high danger chances so not bad as a matchup effort for the third line.

Agreed. Seems to have a big emphasis on that. He’s also had a few good rushes, the points will come.

There were some chance trading and Allen was solid in those, but it settled down. We had a very solid 3rd period, so-so second.

The shot stats imply EDM was better, but not really the case for the 2nd half of the game.

Yeah, seeing Bratt on the PK is still unnerving, but he's taking it in stride and being useful with it.

Bratt started on the PK and I thought he was amazing at it, deceptively long reach and shifty enough to break up plays, all while being a threat that makes guys panic pass more often.

I was upset when we started whatever season and he just wasn't on it anymore and then didn't for a while. Love having him back on it.

Not sure what to think about Allen this year. Kind of hot and cold. We played really well in his first two games and the first shutout he had against Utah.

We definitely didn't play well tonight. This is the kind of game we've seen teams run away with against us, where we wind up being the ones getting shutout or scoring just one in the end.

Right now it seems like Allen will either singlehandedly steal the game or singlehandedly lose the game. There is no in between.

And I think saying they didn’t play well tonight is unfair. Was it the best they’ve ever played? Certainly not. Edmonton probably “deserved” to win, but it’s not like the Devils didn’t control the play for good amounts of time either.

I was asking because recently my ESPN+/ VPN hasn’t been working so I’ve had to use the crappy MSG+/Gotham Sports feed. I wonder if they started blocking VPN users.

I had that issue last year. Haven't gone back to try. It's likely VPN provider specific.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I use NordVPN and when I try to watch Devils games it takes forever for the ESPN+ app to load. Usually it will let me watch part of the game, and then sometime at the end of the 1st/beginning of the 2nd my feed suddenly goes to black and when I try to pull it up again the game is listed as blacked out in my area.

I'm very close to just cancelling ESPN+ and pirating every stream like I used to back in the day, it's a terrible product with so many performance issues it's not even funny.

Pesce had some trouble on a breakout on the wall and Luke got the puck from him and skates it out properly.

Was more unimpressed with the Oilers than anything the Devils did.
