You always hear "Kakko is gonna go somewhere else and be good."

Honestly, who cares?
I’ll care to the extent that his new success elsewhere (hypothetical) doesn’t really seem related to skill development. Like if he seems like he has the same exact toolbox but is playing better, it could be a partial indictment of what we’re doing as an org, no?

I won’t have terrible fomo or anything but I think it’s worth talking about.

Kakko has been the smokescreen for what's actually wrong with this team for so f***ing long it's insane. So much time is wasted talking about him when we have an entire core of veterans who wouldn't come out with intensity if Lavi had guns to the backs of their heads.

Kakko is so far removed from why we aren't genuine contenders, but there is this fixation on us always being able to trade away this good 3rd liner with potential, to right the ship. Even when that line was the best one on the team to start the season, you could feel that half the board (and the coaching staff) was just holding their breath until they could deflect blame to him again.

Sorry, i think that’s a load of nonsense. When you have a family and you have literally other human beings, helpless ones at that, you are (or should be if not a dirtbag) much more conscientious and would storm the gates of hell to take care of them. It’s not remotely true of all industries.

NHL contracts are guaranteed, dude.

Some guys just don't work in some places.

Tampa won multiple Cups and went through a stretch where they could have gotten NHL minutes out of people sitting in the parking lot. They didn't get any more out of JT Miller than we did.

We've done everything with Kakko. If he gets any better, it'll be because the player finally improved at something he apparently could have gotten better at. because finally getting traded woke him up.

I doubt that, but either way, I wouldn't have done anything differently with him. We handed him a top six spot and lost it three years in a row. He's had five summers to work on his skating. He either can't or he won't.

It's the commitment to the cause. Soon the entire board will realize what this team is missing. The leadership and skill of a single man sent here on a mission to deliver NY a Cup: Brett Howden
Ba god, that's Brett Howden's music!

Drury is a malcontent himself!
that's the best type of content

It was the STUPIDEST thing they could have done.

What if signing Igor was actually the smartest thing they could have done because he's now locked in to 8x11.5 and they can deal him prior to the NMC kicks in on 7/1 when other teams claim they would have offered him "13-14M" so he should have huge value?

He was handed a top 6 with the bullshit brothers where over 21 other players failed with also.

Those two assholes are the reason why we are a sinking ship.

Would be super ballsy and I personally would love it.

It's almost as if your 2nd best D is a more important role than like, your 7th best forward.

Lots of people want Miller gone, but they actually have to replace Miller. They haven't, and evidently, Mackey taking those minutes isn't going to be a success.

You can replace Kakko with Brodzinski and I literally won't notice until I see 22 skating with the puck and I squint my eyes and go "is that Brodzinski?"
I don't give a rats ass anymore about KK health-scratching at this point. Trade him is even better answer.

Lindgren should be gone ASAP too but this is like cleaning the whole house and figuring out if you need to start with left side or the right.

At least we won't notice if Kakko is moved with internal replacements readily available - whoever is going to step in for Lindgren will be immediate and noticeable improvement. Similarly I don't have an argument anymore to expect (a turnaround) here.

In 2022, he started with Panarin and lost that spot to Colin Blackwell.

This is his sixth season. Which teammates, exactly, is he scoring with?

Some people have said we should keep Kakko because "well, he's an effective NHL player at pretty cheap" and that I can understand, but this guy has to have to longest book of excuses I've ever seen on this board as to why he's not a better player.

Lafreniere got fewer opportunities and glued himself to our top six long-term with the first real shot he had.

Kid has been forced to play a rush game for most of his time here. He was decent with Cuylle and Chytil and then Chytil got his noggin knocked. Chytil trying to get back to form but they couldn't help to label Kakko the problem.

Bad fit here. Always been. Trade him.

Laf with Panarin is over cooked. Kid is playing perimeter hockey throwing lobs from the walls. Floats around, waits at the post waiting for the slam dunk feed, spotty D.

His cycle game is really overrated. He loses puck battles like crazy.

Cuylle has no trouble playing a grit n' grind style of play on the same team.

He has never really been given PP time and always just getting yanked around. He definitely needs certain types of players who like to work the cycle to be effective. Our team is basically void of those type of players.

He was never a dit for the personnel we had, but he never was really given a dull chance either and was always bizarrly the one getting scratched or benched for no seeming reason.

Im not saying he is an all star or will live up to #2 status. But i believe he is a better player than what he has shown/was given here.

No he doesnt. Kreider loses puck battles like crazy. Kakko is actually quite good at puck battles and keeping the puck in the zone as well. Hes one of the best on the rangers in close and on the boards.

I'm not gonna deny that. He couldn't get into the middle of the ice no matter how much he carried the puck on the wall. I'm just saying it's not been a stylistic fit.

He's spent the whole year with Cuylle and Chytil, our two best players at cycling, and he's still the worst player on the line scoring at below a .5 PPG rate.

Explain to me what "chance" you want him to have. What type of situation have the Rangers not put him in? He's played with everyone!

Powerplay??? Zero coaches in professional hockey are putting this guy on their first unit over other players on the roster.

Blame Kreider and Zibanejad, I know you will, but if those two guys retired tomorrow, he's still not on the first unit over Cuylle, Lafreniere, or Chytil.

Kakko sucks along the boards.

Kreider has been terrible this year. If you think Kakko was better than Kreider at winning battles prior to this year, you're seeing what you want to see.

A light breeze knocks Kakko off the puck. The idea that he's some cycling monster is enough copium to pretend Tupac is still alive.

You mentioned all industries.

Beyond that, maybe you heard of Patrick Laine and his Fortnite 15 hour sessions before? After all, that has to be better preparation for a hockey game than doing adult things like changing some diapers or reading a bedtime story to your children ,all of which make a man soft amirite?

I mean Wayne Gretzky was terrible in 1988 when his first kid was born.

And it’s truly a miracle that Mark Messier was able to captain us to a Stanley Cup in 94 after having his first child in 1987.

One has to wonder if he had stayed single and played Mario Kart in his jammies all day in his playing career we’d have 3 Cups.

nah dude it was because Panarin said he didn't want to play with him!!! (how the hell did that myth become fact around here?)
You can say anything about a guy over 25 to defend a guy under 25. It'll stick.

And that was absolutely a thing here before this group of veterans even started to suck!
