It was also reported the Neely wanted Bruce gone and Sweeney didn't. Maybe Cam ought to just fire Don and run the team himself. The plus side to that, after the pain, is that he'll GM himself out of a job with the team. Loved Cam as a player, but not sure he should be running any kind of hockey ops in the NHL. He should go cut ribbons, dig ceremonial holes with a golden shovel, and kiss babies.
You very well may be right.

I think they’re tied to one another. They’ll stay on or get demoted together. I can’t see the Jacobs family outright firing Neely.

Montgomery must be thanking god he gets to go to St Louis and actually have some offensive talent up front. Sweeney is going to look even more stupid letting him go and replacing him with Sacco. Problem wasn’t the coach, it was the lack of any skill up front outside of Pasta.

Do you watch the games, Ignoring offense for a second, did you not notice the absolute tire fire the bruins have been in their own zone this year, and frankly the second half of last year.

Time to bump the management thread. While I have generally been (not totally) supportive of management and what they are trying to do, this season, to this point, is a fail that lands squarely on Sweeneely. Here is what I have, with the stipulation that things could look very different in a few months time:

1) They overpaid Swayman in both dollars and term. He is not playing like the contract he demanded, and shame on Don and Cam for buckling if they really didn't believe he was worth it (and the fact that a deal took so long tells me they didn't).

2) Zadorov is overpaid for what he brings, but he's been decent, so maybe that one gets a pass. He certainly brings some elements that the Bruins lacked.

3) Elias Lindholm is looking like a big UFA bust in dollars and term. They should be getting shit about this and plenty of folks here warned us about the guy at that rate and length and contract.

4) They fired Montgomery, which is fine after the start they had, but a guy doesn't go from a .70+% win percentage over two seasons to the shitshow we've witnessed without pointing out that he didn't hire the players.

I am sure there are others, like believing Geek, Coyle, Freddie, et al. would have second career years, and not replacing JDB's scoring or speed. Defend the moves if you want, and maybe everything turns out alright, but we may as well have the management thread to unload on, well, management.

This is the one that annoys me most.

Lindholm, for all intents and purposes was a one year wonder in Calgary, playing between two absolute stud wings in Tkachuk and Gaudreau. (RIP) But even then, after those two guys left for elsewhere he wasn't awful. 64 points in 2023 with a team around him in total shambles is still pretty solid.

Last year he sucked. 32 points in 49 games with Calgary, absolutely stunk out the joint in the playoffs with the Canucks to the point many people thought it was bad enough to cost him money in the summer.

And then in comes Cam and Don with that contract. I wasn't a big fan of the term/money, but from a fit perspective i understood it. You need a first line center and he's realistically the closest you're going to get given you won't be able to tank and they don't exactly hit the market often.

And of course, they get the Vancouver version. Good job, guys.

I remember going into Boston Garden and watching Joe Sacco knock out my old HS
in the 1986 State Tourney. At the HS level he was a force and if memory serves me
lost to Ted Donato's CM squad in OT in the Finals.

The team Sacco has taken over has numerous holes, top player under performance and a GM who let known quantities leave, who had helped make contributions to 8 straight PO appearances and a SCF in DeBrusk, Heinen and Gryz. They miss all three's skill set but especially DeBrusk's speed and scoring along with Heinen's heady play. Sweeney apparently underestimated the holes they would leave and overestimated Lindholm's game.

The Swayman contract is all on Sweeney from arbitration, handling Ullmark's departure and related Swayman negotiations.

If Sacco wins a playoff round, the job his?
I think the job should be his for the rest of Sweeneys tenure assuming we are reaching the end. (Maybe the Jacobs want him around another decade but I doubt it.)

Teams doing ok in the standings even if key guys aren't having good years statistically not sure how anyone could do better than Sacco has.

This aged f***ing well lol

Makes sense to me, he ran the d in Detroit, no? I am not a fan of Leach or McQuaid in terms of development.
Thank you for validating my opinion that Leach & McQuaid are excellent coaches

I’m assuming everything you post is the opposite of how you feel

You are a brilliant guy

I know hockey is my third sport so I don’t know as much as most here - why is it near Sweeney end ?

Is he retiring ?

10/11 pts, 13 games in playoffs for the Nucks last year and was very good in those games I watched

His reg season then play with the Nucks when he joined them I`ll agree with but you are way off on your playoff assessment of him last year

Mr. Make-Believe

The happy genius of my household
I know I will get roasted for this, but that's never stopped me before.

Now that Bob Boughner has been relieved of his duties with Detroit, I would consider him for assistant coach in Boston.
He was an incredible junior hockey coach, that’s for sure. Don’t know much about him as an NHL guy (has been at the helm for some pretty rotten teams).

Why Boughner in your opinion?

He averaged 65 points a season over a 6 or 7 year stretch

Good with special teams. I want to break with tradition and have one person coach all special teams as opposed to one doing pp and one doing pk. Leave Leach and Kelly to coach the defence and forwards respectively.

Let's face it, there are some young players coming up over the next couple of years and Boughner has been good with young players for most of his career.

Finally, I think Boughner wants to play the style Sweeney/Neely/Sacco want to play and he has always been able to get his players to rise to the occasion physically.

Besides, he was the head coach in Windsor when the Spitfires blocked me on Twitter and would not accept my media pass. And that fits in well with the Bruins now.

Wait, what? Gonna need backstory there if it’s public domain type stuff of course

The Spitfires or the Bruins? I can tell you both.

I forget what year it was but I was in Owen Sound for a game that Windsor was playing. Boughner was serving a suspension for a brawl the previous game. So, the media room in Owen Sound only has 3 seats and I got the first one. But then the Spitfires bus driver came in and needed to plug in his laptop. I moved over a seat so that he could plug it in. Then Warren Rychel came in, he was their GM so again, I moved one seat so he could sit next to his bus driver. Finally Boughner came in and being the super, great guy I am, I gave up my seat for him and stood behind them.

It just so happened to also be trade deadline day and they were making all these trades. And of course, as they were making them, I was tweeting them out. Then Bob McKenzie asked on Twitter where I was getting this info from because he wasn't hearing anything, and I took a picture of the 3 of them making trades online and posted it. Then they blocked me.

The Bruins....

A couple of weeks ago they posted a prospects story on their web page. All I did was tweet out "what is wrong with this?" Obviously, people that follow me knew right away. They included Reid Dyck in their article when he is no longer their prospect. Someone from the Bruins read the replies I was getting and they changed their article.

I got a message from someone on the team saying "we saw your tweet....blah, blah, blah and asked that next time I contact them to correct it rather than make it public. Like I am supposed to be their proof reader.

Then, the game against the Caps, they tweeted out the roster and had Charlie Coyle as both 2RW and 3C. I tweeted out "So, Charlie Coyle is playing both 2RW and 3C tonight?"

Got basically the same message from the Bruins. Not sure if they blocked me yet. Haven't looked.
