I can understand the thought process that went behind in implementing such a rule, but I think we saw the most disastrous end result at the worst possible time of what happens when something like an icing is left to the ref's discretion. I'm not insinuating that this is in fact what was the downfall of the Rangers but I lost count in how many times in this series alone where a Ranger had a King beat to the puck but the ref felt the need to blow the whistle.

It is absolutely DREADFUL. You have taken a play which is NOT SUBJECTIVE and turned it into something which is now SUBJECTIVE. And of course, with these buffoons in stripes, whenever something is subjective they will feck it up.

There was no reason to do this. NONE. It is a joke and needs to go back.

Icing plays had an inordinate amount of injurys crashing into the boards. That's the reason why they do it. It's never going away.

Hybrid icing sucks, but I don't think they will go back to touch icing. In my opinion you should either have instant icing or touch icing. There is just to much guesswork involved in the hybrid calls.

Yeah, it was a problem this year... just part of an overall narrative of poor officiating.

It's one of the rules that needs to be reviewed... and we'll probably end up with IIHF style automatic icing.

I'd rather it just be automatic. The less the refs have to think the better. And it adds a few seconds of playing time to each game.

I absolutely abhor hybrid icing. The sooner this ******** is gone the better.

change it to a race to the dots. attacker wins it there is no icing. if defender is there first then its an icing. dont let these idiot officials decide who he thinks is gonna get to the puck at that point. make it clear cut.

Either make the calls more consistent or just get rid of it. I don't even think the refs completely knew how to call it at times.

The Stanley Cup Finals were an abortion for hybrid icing, but I'm not ready to give up on the rule yet.

thats how its supposed to be and its still a mess.

unless you're being sarcastic, i cant tell.

when it comes to player safety, its a good rule. for the refs being consistent, its an abomination.

The rule is fine but the calls were horrible. How many times did a Ranger were the Rangers ahead of the Kings yet still called for it. Some of the calls the refs and linesmen made in this series really made me paranoid that they were literally against us.

Congrats on going purple!

It's a joke and should be eliminated or there should be severe fines and suspensions for linesman that consistently get it wrong.

im pretty sure the ref decides who will reach the puck first by the time they get to the dots. just eliminate the decision and make it whoever is there first decides it.

Consistency issues as with everything else, the Rangers were damn close multiple times and they'd blow it down. Doughty saw the puck go past him and just stopped skating at the top of the circles while a Ranger went full speed and they called it an icing.

I agree that this is the reason they implemented it, and that it isn't going away. But inordinate? When? How many? I can remember a handful at best over several years.

I hate the rule, and honestly though it may sound callous, would gladly consider the trade off of a couple injuries every few years over this **** show.

Hybrid icing doesn't really eliminate the injuries from crashing into the boards if called correctly. It's supposed to allow the races when the offensive player is ahead and just auto-call the obvious ones when no attacking player is close. It really does nothing other than slightly speed up and complicate the game.

Hated it since it was first implemented. One of the more underrated plays in hockey is when a forward out hustles an opposing defenseman and beats him to the other end to prevent an icing. Even the positioning of the players so they could get the touch was interesting.

However, I understand that there is a substantial risk for injury by using touch icing. I would much rather have the league adopt "no touch, " as it requires less of a judgement call.

Get rid of hybrid icing, first to the line if you're worried about injuries.
