Hutson's next contract

Lets see if he survives the playoffs first.

Exactly.

Might be better for him to wait next year as well, playing with Demidov might boost his numbers up and give confidence to the organisation.

A bridge deal is exactly what Hutson needs. Just focus on playing, racking up the numbers, helping the organisation with a lower cap, this will ensure him a maximum deal in when ever he's due.

So sick of Hutson's doubters. He's the best player from that draft and people still think he's going to break.

He's not going to be the first small player to dominate.

He's pretty banged up, these playoffs mean nothing. He's already worth 10M+
Hmm, playoff experience means nothing… I beg to differ. Banged up? Sure. 10M+? If we win the cup with Hutson being a major part of the effort? 10M+ it is.

I don't believe 10 millions. I know Chychrun signed for 9, but washington ate every single UFA years. There is a price to that. I like Hutson, but I think it should be between 8/9 millions. I don't know what want Hutson, but 10 millions isnt a friendly deal like Suz, Slaf and Caufield got.

Where he can't be offer sheeted I can't see next contract going much higher than Suzuki

The cap is expected to rise to $103M in 2026-2027, up $8M from 2025-2026 where it will be about $95.5M, which in itself is also up $12M from when Suzuki signed his extension in an $83.5M capspace world.

Suzuki's $7.875M contract on an $83.5M cap is 10.6% of total cap.

If you took the same percentage and applied that to a $103M cap it would give you a $10.9M AAV.

By sheer virtue of the cap rising immensely in the years to come, the Hutson extension will see him make more money than Suzuki.

Maybe Hutson signs long-term for something like $8.5M-$9M if he decides to give a bit of a discount to the Canadiens. But expecting anything below that is setting yourself up for disappointment in my opinion, offer-sheet availability or not.

So 8 years at between $9.5-$11M.

Lock him up. As long and cheaply as you can. Try to get him to CC/Suzuki money.
I think you're dreaming. Kid had a generational rookie season and even looks great in the playoffs. All the questions are answered. I think it will be in the 9.5 to 10.5M per range for 8 years and he's worth every penny.

Really guys.........his next contract has to be seen as a pleasant problem.
For some reason I think his people take a 3-4 year deal around 8M..............after that the sky will be the limit.

If they go for 8 years, there is no way he's accepting any single digit cap hit.

His rookie season was so far off the charts that I don't think the habs have much to lose if they wait until next year to negotiate. It cant get much higher and it might even come down based on how his 2nd season goes.

It's not like Suzuki, slaf or caufield where the Habs signed them long term while their production was still relatively pedestrian. Hutson is already producing at a historic rate so it's an apples to oranges situation.

IMO, anything under 8 years would be a mistake. Hope he sees himself in Montreal for a long time.
Hughes has a track record of rewarding his stars with 8yr contracts!

We all know he’s a 10m$ a year player all day long but I hope Hughes can convince Hutson to follow the rest of the boys and signs for 7.9m$ x 8yrs.

Would probably add Norris nomination bonuses and points bonuses but this guy is a star….actually he’s a superstar.

Wouldn’t surprise me in one bit if this guy hits 90pt seasons, especially if Demidov becomes who he’s suppose to, Slaf reaches his potential and we acquire a legit 2nd line C which I believe now is like a layup on a 4ft net as I’m convinced players will not only take notice of the playoff atmosphere we’ve demonstrated but the talent is so legit that you can confidently come to the conclusion that this team is gonna become a serious Stanley Cup contender year in year out.

To think we still have Reinbacher, Fowler, Mailloux, Xhekaj and Hage stewing nicely in great hockey programs!!

It was decided back before HF went down. Max option was 8.5+
