Post-Game Talk: Hutson and Suzuki lead Habs in comeback win vs Flyers

Finally some breathing room.

Go with dobes tommorow, then run monty for the rest of the season (unless the habs clinch)

We have another back-to-back next weekend. In Ottawa Friday then in Toronto Saturday. It's doubtful Montembeault plays both games. We'll see what happens.

He was actually smaller than 5'9. He was like 5'7 at time of draft and brought medical information that he could still grow a couple of inches to get to 5'9. He was also, like 145 lbs, maybe.

He was so small. I'll never forget my first time watching him at the U18s 2021. I was like why did USA bring a 12 year old? He was tiny. Absolutely electric though.

At the combine, he was listed at
  • Lane Hutson (25th NA): 5-foot-8.25, 158 pounds

Rags are the only threat left
If Wings win tomorrow they will have the exact same record as the Rags and still a game against us. And they will probably win as they play Florida, a team that really is struggling.

What a big game. A good team is a team whose big players play big when it counts. So guess who score the 3 goals...

Gallagher. 20 goals now. Exemplifies players who play above their size, and never lets up on the battle. And doesn't forget to love playing the game, which makes for a real inspiration to younger players.

Hutson. Speaking of size, I was a bit skeptical of how good he will be as an NHLer before this season, but the more I watch how this guy is evolving as a player the more I think we may have a star defensemen on our hands.

Suzuki... Junior success doesn't always repeat itself, but in this case a former playoff MVP in the OHL is doing the same stuff now... the bigger the game is the better he gets. (And to repeat an early thought... thank goodness he wasn't picked for the 4 Nations.)

A few more players deserve special note:

Savard and Armia. Yes, Armia might be injured and may not score much these days, but he's a key forward who's at his best defending a lead. As for Savard, yes, he is on his last legs, but look who was guaranteed to be on the ice when the Habs took that late penalty and were about to play 2 skaters down and was talking to the other 3 skaters before the face-off. The Habs have become pretty good in protecting these 1 and 2 goal leads, and now they have to do it in big games. Savard's been there and done that, and can instruct others what to focus on in such key situations plus provide a calming effect that helps that focus to happen.

Montembeault. Made at least 3 big saves when it mattered at the end. He is proving he can play big in the big games.

That leads into one reason why this game was a big one ... as mentioned by others, they can give the next game to Dobes, because Monty's time needs to be managed for him to play at his best. And that goes right into the playoffs if they make it.
