Nice effort by the team…. That was a tighter game than we may have expected earlier in the season…. Montreal has a very good line there with Slav coming along and looking like the high draft position was warranted. He didn’t tear it up in his rookie year and had to figure out how to play in the league. He was dangerous out there, the whole line was all night…

They still have work to do to be a consistent winner. But that Habs team has definitely got some pieces now and won’t be a pushover for much longer at all….

Good win… nice to get these shutouts and go into a nice rest period on a win streak :)

Signing bonuses are not subject to escrow…. So all the big guys have been signing deals with most of their money in signing bonuses so they are not only lockout proof they also don’t have escrow taken out….

So yes, the rate, once decided means it is an equal % of regular salary deducted to bring it back to a 50/50 revenue split, but the calculations that decide how much percentage the escrow rate will be is skewed where the stars forcing the hands of teams to give the shaft to the entry level and non stars to have to pay higher escrow on their deals still is true as I said…
False. From 50.4, governing escrow:

(i) Each Club shall withhold from each Player who is party to an SPC with
that Club (and current Players who retire or otherwise cease playing in the
NHL to the extent such Players continue to be paid under an SPC with that
Club, including, without limitation, Players who were party to SPCs that
have been bought out) an amount of each payment of the Player's Player
Salary and Bonuses for that League Year. The amount of each payment to
be so withheld shall be calculated by multiplying the portion of each
Player's Player Salary and Bonuses to be paid during a pay period by the
applicable Escrow Percentage that is then in effect during that pay period.

Now, there are definitely players who have put big bonus payments in years where escrow was anticipated to be lower, but the signing bonus will be subject to the same rate for escrow as every other payment in the year it is paid.

Bonuses do make you lockout proof as they are paid regardless of whether hockey is played that year. But they are still absolutely subject to escrow.

If the Canes win the Cup, somebody's going to pay at or over the Nylander rate for Guentzel, probably a bad team. Canes will say thanks for the Cup and pay max term for Jarvis and Necas. It's a way harder decision if they don't win, however. They may have to bite the bullet and pay him considering how great our top-6 looks with him.

Yeah, that's honestly what I think we'll see. Guentzel is going to get some offers he's going to have to think long and hard about turning down, and we're not going to be in the ballpark of what some other teams will be able to offer. Everyone's expecting the cap to go up long term, I fully expect that to be an 8 digit AAV.

And I'd pay it too. But it's going to take some uncomfortable tradeoffs. But if you let Turbo go and bridge Jarvis, it's likely a pill you can swallow.

The NHL’s expansion into the south and its consequences have been a disaster for the hockey fan race. What was once a game built on tradition, sportsmanship and competition has now evolved into a circus act where organizations appeal to the lowest common denominator in the form of childish choreography, twitter wars, and roster moves worth millions of dollars that serve no purpose than to grab headlines. Hockey is not made for the south, it’s a game deeply rooted in northern culture where kids can spend the winter out in the wilderness slapping pucks around before tuning into Hockey Night in Canada and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs get fisted raw. What we have in the south is nothing short of a disgrace. Bible belt boomers whose only contact with the cold is the air conditioning of their mobility scooters have gripped our sport with an iron fist, uprooting our traditions and replacing them with free burgers when a player touches the puck and raising banners for going a week without someone in the crowd having a heart attack because of their diets consisting of honey butter biscuits and sweet tea. The day hockey dies in the south is the day I gain my soul back.

Among goalies that qualify, Kochetkov is now #1 in GAA.

What a turn around. From ~4 months ago, a sentiment shared by a fair number of people:

Since December 12th after the players only meeting, the Canes have the 2nd best sv % in the NHL at 91.77%. WPG is at 92.15% in first. Seattle (91.75) and Florida (91.48) are the only other 2 better than 91%.

Also since then Carolina is:
- league's best with 2.17 GA/GP(next best is 2.38)
- league's best with 89.5% PK (next best is 85.2%)
- league's best PP at 30.8% (next best is 29.4%)
- league's best P% at .750 (next best is EDM at .734). That's a 123 pt., 82 game pace
- league's best RW at 28 (next best is 25)
- league's best ROW at 32 (tied with EDM, Dallas is next with 30)

Remarkable.

I wasn't able to watch the game, only the highlights. Based on highlights, it looked like Svech had a couple of dangerous scoring chances and rang the post once. How was his overall game? Any better than prior games?

His last two games have been his best in a long while. He's still snakebit as all hell, but at least he's noticable on the ice now.

It was.

He was trying to create on his own out there which I don't see as a bad thing playing with Staal.

Lots of moves from the half wall driving to the slot to get some shots. If that line can combine that with turbo and Staal finding him in soft spots in the zone he could look more dangerous.

I think what helped him is he doesn't feel the need to defer to anyone on that line on offense and he simplified his game.
