In full disclosure, I have no idea if this was his doing or not. Just thought it was funny.
Anyway, I don't have experience with Thinkpads myself, but I'd probably go with the first (less expensive) option. Though it depends on how you plan to use the machine, as your primary computer or a more mobile option with a primary desktop. It seems the second one is meant to be more of a compliment device, with the thinner design, slightly less (.2 lbs) weight, and the solid-state drive. Both processors seem pretty powerful, and unless you do heavy video editing or other high-use functions most of the time, there probably won't be too much of a difference between the two. And while the second one comes with twice the memory, it doesn't look like you can add any more than the preinstalled 8gb, so that's a nice option to be able to upgrade up to 12 gb on the first one. Then the hard drive differences are pretty clear, 320gb SATA for the first, 128gb SSD for the second. Once again, I think it come down to weather or not this will be your primary/only computer or the laptop compliment to a desktop.
If this is all plainly obvious to you, just carry on then
And I'm no expert on computers by any means, so anyone feel free to correct what I wrote.
