HURRICANES LOUNGE XLVIII

Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson both removed from the HOF ban list. I get that some might cling to the "purity" argument for keeping Rose out. But waiting until he dies seems like kind of a shitty thing to do (imo, of course).
I mean, if they say it's a lifetime ban, waiting until he's dead seems like the intended sanction, no?

I get it, but these are parenting issues. If a chick likes to be choked (Youd be surprised how many do - but again, consent - which is usually asking followed by "daddy" LOL) then let her be. If a dude is like doing that straight out then porn probably isnt the issue.

IDGAF about weed, porn, sex, gay stuff, none of it. As long as you keep kids out of it, and don't get involved in my guns, homemade liquor, or anything else I do that doesn't harm you that you don't like (Not you, Negan, I know your views).
Yeah, trust me I realize some are into it for sure. But I've been reading a lot of young dudes think that is the default setting and just go for it.

I remember when my favorite car game for a long drive was "spot license plates for all 50 states". Now my favorite is "skunk or weed".

But man, I do love buying legal THC over the internet. If it was good enough for Carl Sagan, it's good enough for me.

Also: I think maybe it's time Borsig and Negan put on an hf26 firearms class. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

I do have a nice steel target stand that I use for pistol work. Great training feedback. Although I don't go to public ranges- I find it unbelievably dangerous to shoot next to people who have no clue what they are doing. There is a private spot I have access to in Buxton if any of y'all are out there sometime.

OMFG Evan Loves Worf! I love to dunk on that guy. His takes are so R-worded that I think he is really a sockpuppet account used to make the left look bad. Kind of like an opposite Nick Fuentes.

Youre blaming capitalism after lockdown politics caused the worst inflation spike since, when now?

That's rich.

Yes, I'm blaming capitalism that the top 20% of Americans control 70% of the nation's wealth. If you're bad at math, that means the remaining 80% (which almost assuredly includes most of this board) is fighting over the remaining 30% of wealth.

If we look even closer, the top 1% of Americans own 23.8% of the nation's wealth, nearly three times the amount of the 8% owned by those who fall between the 40-60% of income percentile (ie, the middle class).

30 years ago, the cap between the 1% and the middle class was 6.3%.
20 years ago, it was 10.5%.
10 years ago, it was 11.1%.
As of Q4 of 2024, it's 11.8%.

The rich keep getting richer, the gap is getting bigger and it's not going to get any better anytime soon.

Agree, the steel targets are the best. Have a range at my place for those reasons.

Wealth is not a finite resource. It grows, it shrinks, and because somebody is wealthy does not mean that you can't be wealthy too. Yes, the rich are getting richer, but the top 20% is dynamic; it's not the same group of people. People move in and out of the various percentiles.

As one of the writers that I respect has said, "....Capitalism is a terrible system. It's just better than any other economic system". The real math is that capitalism has raised more people out of poverty in the last couple of hundred years than anything that came before it.

Without going too much into the weeds, capitalism works but you need safeguards in place to not have it devolve into the rich taking advantage of and abusing the poor working class. The inherent nature of capitalism is those with money using that money to hoard everything for themselves, and you need the government putting regulations in place to prevent that from happening, because capitalistic economies have proven over time they are incapable of regulating themselves.

And socialist / communist economies cant even feed themselves and must be enforced at the barrel of a gun.

so... You know...

Something two weavels.
Yup

Nothing is perfect, they all need checks and balances. Capitalism is definitely better than most but it needs to be regulated or else it leads to vast swaths of the populace living in poverty and indentured servitude. I mean it wasn't THAT long ago companies basically set up mini economies that trapped employees into working situations that they could not get out of because the compensation could only be redeemed at employer owned businesses, because going in that direction maximized profits.

Labor laws exist because pure unchecked capitalism cannot be trusted. And that is true of any economic scheme.

You act like I'm not from appalachia and don't know this. Wife's father worked in pocahontas, I was born in tazewell and shes from bluefield. Dad was a railroader. Too tall for mine work. I know precisely what a company town and a chit is.

But railing against capitalism just makes you guys sound like socialists. I've been to the V A. I want nothing to do with socialized medicine or anything else. This whole you'll own nothing and like it thing has already gone too far.

I recently had a conversation with my parents about the situation that many people face today with regards to owning vs. renting.

I asked them how much a house in their neighborhood recently sold for. They said 550k. I then asked them how much they spent on their first house. They said 75k. Finally, I asked them what minimum wage was when they bought their first house. They said "Probably the same as it is today." So now you know why people are forced to rent.
