So if our Star, the sun, has a massive explosion, we are toast? Good to know. :sarcasm:

I believe the current theory as far as our Sun goes is that it will eventually run out of fuel and shrink down to a white dwarf star (becoming about the size of Earth), but first it goes through a red giant phase, expanding in our solar system to the point where most of the planets close to it (including Earth) will be swallowed entirely.

Also, it would apparently take a 25 magnitude quake to destroy the Sun. And that star quake was 7^10x stronger than that.

Makes sense. I guess my point is, what's the point? if the earth gets obliterated, there is nothing we can do about it.

There's no hidden meaning or point. I just brought it up because I thought it was cool.
The thought of something being that powerful is literally unimaginable to me. If 12.something is 100 trillion tons of TNT (which is already in the WTF territory), having records of something 20^10x more powerful than that out there in the universe is mind-blowing.

I would say "they're still a thing?" but every music act is still a thing and still touring. I mean I'm convinced the Rolling Stones will tour after they're dead.

Yeah they recently got back together after Tom Delonge finished his 15 year crusade for UFO disclosure...

Its wild how many older bands are on tour this summer. Chili Peppers, Green Day, Sum 41, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, etc

I think i've mentioned it before - as a broke college student i justified the expense of rolling stones tickets (bridges to babylon tour; saw them in charlotte oct 97) with "who knows if i'll ever get a chance to see them again?"

(In my defense they had 30+ years together at that point.)

I know, I had a small cow when a friend texted me to say he was at the Pixies/Modest Mouse show this summer. I had completely missed it, but he sent me some video and gave me some opinions during the show. They’re all old af and the show mostly sucked. I’m lucky to have seen both when I wanted to and they were young.

The singer from Modest Mouse was the most inebriated performer I’ve ever seen live….like 15 years ago.

yeah having seen Modest Mouse in their prime was a shit show, I really don't want to know how bad it is well over a decade later.

What I remember about Modest Mouse is they are one of those bands in high school that everyone liked to try to prove themselves that they had tastes that weren't all "mainstream", even though their music was on mainstream radio (not pop but rock radio loved them), VH1 played their vids, and they IIRC made an appearance on Letterman or Leno.

Hoobastank was another and then "The Reason" took off and all the wannabe hipster kids stopped listening to them lol.

Duke Fakir, the last surviving member of The Four Tops, died last week at the age of 81 and he hasn't performed with the group since last year. But they've been touring this year and you can still buy tickets to upcoming Four Tops concerts.

Earth Wind & Fire with Chicago are gonna be at Walnut Creek this August....the 12th I think, but could be off by a day or three.

My wife won tickets to see Hoobastank from what is now Simon in the High Point area. It was not concert tickets but pre concert meet and greet for lunch and an acoustic set. Just the guitarist and the lead singer, but I have the recording of it and still listen to it every now and then.

Pretty cool guys.

I remember that station, they called themselves "The Zone" I think. They were kind of a Hot AC/Rock station. My dad would listen to them even living in Raleigh. I think Simon was among the first ever we play anything stations that are pretty common now.

I just remember all my wannabe hipster friends being upset about "The Reason" being a big hit for no reason other than they just had to not like the mainstream. Pretty stupid but when you're 16, well, yeah. "Disappear" is a great tune FWIW, probably my most listened to from them.

Only one thing we can do. Build a giant rocket booster on one side of the earth so we can drive it away from the sun if it explodes.
