Fronting $50m for an event everyone (wrongly) tells you is a moneypit of a venture isn't being anything close to the level of conservative you accuse him of being with his money
First of all, you talk about me accusing him of something like I’m saying it’s a negative. I’m not even making a criticism here. Dundon running a lean ship in his businesses isn’t exactly a secret. Everyone was talking about it when he low-balled Brind’Amour, who could easily have doubled his salary going somewhere else.
Dundon does what he wants to do, so it doesn’t surprise me that he ignored what other people were saying and it doesn’t surprise me that he was right either. That $50m doesn’t represent extravagance just by saying the number. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the lowest number he could pay while still making sure it’s a quality event. Note: again, that’s not saying he’s cheap. It’s saying he’s “strategic” about it, to use the other poster’s terminology. It’s a particular skill of his that’s a big part of his success.
You mean, the businessman is running the sports franchise like a business and investing money where he expects the most direct return?
I don't think the question is why Dundon is so "conservative" with the money spent on the franchise (I think the better word is "strategic"), The question is why on Earth other owners wouldn't spend the same way.
There’s a crazy amount of wasteful spending in business.
