No idea why Westgarth was dressed tonight. The only logical explanation would be that Sutter is fighting a injury.

real nice game tonight. everyone played well, top line got some results (happy for Jiri), full 60 minutes. no complaints with that outcome at all. :handclap:

Absolutely. Earning what Ward earns he should at least grow a couple extra arms to stop those goals.

They should probably just string up a hammock between the pipes for him so he can be more comfortable being stretched-out horizontal. Hate to overtax a guy who earns what he does.

Westgarth with a whopping 1 minute and 45 second TOI.

Literally more PIM then TOI. :yo:

Holy smokes, though, Murphy is looking good. He's got 5 points in 8 games now, and I feel like he's getting more confident with each game that goes by. The end-to-end rushes tonight and against the Leafs were absolute things of beauty, and that pass to JStaal was fantastic, too. And it's not like his offense is coming at the cost of defense. He's been pretty good positionally for a 20 year old smurf, and though he doesn't always make the best pass out of his zone, especially if there's a forechecker bearing down on him, it's looking like he'll be pretty decent at not getting hemmed in his own zone once he gets more experience. Kid is the genuine article.

Skinner, too, seems to have turned a corner, he's creating offense, isn't ever gonna be Selke-level on defense, but he's noticeably improved in that aspect, and it seems to be be leading to more offensive opportunities for his line. Hopefully he picks up on that, and commits to playing defense like a real NHL player.

Happy for the win and the two points but man this team rarely makes it easy.

Like Toronto, Uniondale is a place we usually win at but our wins there are like tonight, take a lead and let the Isles make it interesting.

Good for Jiri and Jordan getting goals, Skinner continuing to score as well.

I'll bet that he'd have seen more ice time had the Isles started taking liberties. But they didn't. Because Westy was there waiting. ( drops mic )

noone's afraid of "enforcers". teams want to win by scoring goals and staying out of the box. Westgarth and guys like him, their days are rapidly coming to an end.

Enforcers now don't have to fight because they have better nutrition and conditioning routines, thus, they are better. And they wear bigger pads so look bigger even tho they aren't and people didn't punch as fast back in 80s according to highlight reels. If Westgarth lived in the olden days he would have beaten everyone in the League up according to this ironclad formula. It's all about the nutrition and stuff

Move over Justin Faulk...................actually Murphy has been a surprise in how quickly he changed, even from camp and the pre-season. hope it continues.

Nobody in the olden days wanted to win by scoring goals and staying out of the box. They just didn't think it through due to a lack of brain food nutrition which made them not so good at thinking it like the Mensa members that now populate the League. Everyone thinks much faster now.

Murphy has still been exhibiting one major issue, and it's turning the puck over. Not in the offensive zone, but in his own end of the ice. It's just so strange to see a player so confident with the puck in one end and then conversely so jittery in the other. I feel like some of it might be due to being somewhat afraid of physicality and getting hit on the forecheck. He'll throw pucks in the feet of forecheckers to get out of a situation where he might have the body played. He needs to learn that sometimes you're going to have to eat a few. Get the puck against the boards and buy some time for your partner to get there and help. Other than that, he's been solid enough defending off the rush and using his stick. He just needs to get that ironed out.

I can't help but wonder if he's still jumpy about getting hit because of that HUGE hit by...whoever the hell it was that hit him in juniors...

But you're absolutely right, he's got a bad habit of just throwing it up the boards, in patented Hurricanes style. It's a concern, he's still just 20. That kind of thing is to be expected, if he's still doing that kind of thing a few seasons from now, it'll be a bigger issue.

I've been very pleased with Murphy. The way some talked about him they made it seem like he was an absolute trainwreck defensively. I haven't seen much of that at all so far.
