Value of: Hughes Dobson Hamilton musical chairs

Devils wouldn't be willing to trade away 4 NHL caliber defensemen plus 2 1st round picks for Quinn.
Hmm. Taking into account what Impaaact had to say. Removing Siegenthaler and weaken the return for Vancouver maybe. Let's see.

HAMILTON, Nemec, 2026 NJD 1st, conditional 3rd for DOBSON
*condition - 3rd becomes 2nd if Devils get to 3rd round in 26

then after

DOBSON, Casey, conditional 2027 2nd* for Q HUGHES
*condition - 2nd becomes 1st if Devils get to finals in 26 or 27

So Hamilton, Nemec, Casey and 3 picks becomes Quinn Hughes. Picks can be very late 1st, very late 1st and 2nd if the Devils do very very well right away, but could be as low as 1st 2nd 3rd if Devils don't get into the final 4 in year one and don't get into the cup finals in year two.

Still has NJ giving up 3 RHD, they can't do this as it's already been announced that Kovacevic will miss time. That would be 4 of their 5 NHL caliber defensemen. There could be a deal in there somewhere but I can't see the Devils being willing to decimate their RHD depth.

May we interest you in one slightly used Tony Deangelo

If you're adding one of the best D in the world, and your RD still looks like Pesce Kovacevic and (Dillon replacement), I think that's fine. Instead of signing a LHD to replace Dillon, you sign a RHD instead. Perhaps Rutta or Hakanpaa. With Kovacevic missing time, having temporarily Pesce and Rutta/Hakanpaa as RD depth is certainly not ideal, sure. Every team goes through injuries though, and it's to be expected as part of any given season for any given team.

Obviously I'm not a Devils fan, but generally speaking, adding a truly elite D but creating other minor (solvable) issues with your D core in the process would be considered a good move overall by most people.

Sounds like a done deal. Mayfield included and the Isles sign TDA for 1 year at league minimum.
Honestly at that point we already have Hamilton/Pulock/Nemec/Boqvist on the right before even thinking about TDA. Even if we trade Pulock idk if Tony is the guy you want as your 7th D

Boqvist is a winger now. He’s versatile like Anders Myrvold was. TDA becomes the 7D and problem solved.

Islanders have no reason to be here at all.
They'd be better off trying to snag 4th overall from Utah with horvat Dobson and pelech getting a 26 or 27 1st rounder and a 2nd and taking kerfòot and one of their left vet d and a prospect of their choosing like mavrik maybe as I don't think silayev is getting moved

Silayev won't be moved IMO. At least, not in the next 2 years.

For one's, he's the youngest of Nemec Casey Silayev, so more time to unlock his potential and improve. Second reason: he's their only decent LHD prospect.

Maybe the most important reason is that the Devils have 5 right handed D and will be trading two of them as waiver exemptions end. Hamilton will be gone this summer or within one year, and another RHD (Casey or Nemec) will be gone within 2 years. Since there's a ticking clock on trading one of Nemec or Casey and graduating the other to the NHL full time, it doesn't make sense to also trade Silayev and then have zero high-end D prospects.

Sorry I meant simashev from utah, but maybe there is an opportunity for a three way trade between Utah, NJ and the isles. No dog in the race but I am a sucker for high end prospects going to hometown teams

Why would Hamilton be gone this summer or within one year?
Devils management gave Pesce a long term contract in summer 2024. They gave Kovacevic a long term extension in early 2025. Those were both very recent. Management is very likely planning to keep both of these guys, at least for the next 2 or 3 years.

There's room for one more right-handed D after that. Nemec will need waivers to be send to the AHL starting from next summer. All four of Hamilton Pesce Kovacevic Nemec are too good to be healthy scratches, and the Devils never play any of these right-handed guys mentioned above on the left side (except for when multiple D are injured).

Random note : Casey will need waivers to go down to the AHL starting from summer 2027. Nemec summer 2026. Silayev will be 2028 or 2029 or possibly even later.

It's basically back to the same problem of the Devils and Canucks finding a deal on Quin Hughes in the first place. The Devils just don't have the pieces to put together a "quality for quality" deal, it has to be a "quantity for quality" deal and those are just always a bad idea for the team dealing away the superstar. Adding the Isles to the mix doesn't really get around that fundamental problem. If anything, it just magnifies the issue here, because the Isles then also need some substantial "quality" assets to justify downgrading from Dobson to Hamilton as well. And those pieces would still have to be coming from the Devils.

Hughes to the NYI for Dobson, Colorado 2026 1st, Danny Nelson.

NYI flip Hughes to the NJD for Nemec, Silayev, Hamilton, 2026 1st

No. But Hughes gets to pick where he goes. I think that's a pretty good package for him for Vancouver given the situation.
Given what situation?

Hughes has 2 more years and no NTC. The Canucks could get a way better package from multiple other teams. Your offer is not pretty good. It is brutal. Would you trade Jack for that price?
