So "Insignificant clerical error from the Leafs". I kid, you can make the hypothetical huge if you want. They made the error, officials notified them of it

They showed the lineup sheet on TV.I don't think they put Alex's name? They just put the wrong number for Nylander.
Worst case they might have to press a 92 jersey for him.
Officials notifying the leafs about it and allowing them to change it seems a bit sketch, no ?
The officials shouldn't be allowed to interfere like that. If a team makes an honest mistake like this, they should let it go and suffer the consequences of it.They just talked about it on the panel. Video coach, assistant coach and head coach all missed it. It was the officials that notified the Leafs.
yes you do. Its an organization responsibility thing. Coaches have a responsibility that includes line up cards and their mistakes should be no different than the players if they make it.I don't mind it.
You don't want to see a star player on the shelf for an elimination game because of an administrative error.
Sometimes you have to apply the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter of the law.

yes you do.
listen man, i know what you want better than you.Uh, no I don't.
It's an obvious error that was thankfully cleared up before game time.
I want to see which team is better on the ice, not which coaching staff fills out forms better.
This is the kind of thing that happens more often than you'd think. You just almost never hear about it. The lineup card isn't some sacred thing that could hold a player out of a game.
In fact, Jacques Demers (former SC winning head coach and GM) famously admitted after his retirement that he was and is illiterate. And I seem to recall him telling stories of getting the lineup card wrong all the time. He'd have to hide his secret, telling people that he forgot his glasses. At no point was there ever a suggestion that the team would be in trouble for the minor errors. No one batted an eye at lineup card errors.

Uh yes, it is, and it's happened many times, most famously to Pat Quinn in the playoffs:
Bruce Boudreau did this in 2020 when he put Donato's name on the lineup card instead of Greg Pateryn. In this case the officials forced Pateryn off the ice. I still don't understand why the officials let the Leafs off in this one.
Boudreau's lineup card mistake forces Wild to play with only 5 defensemen
Has there ever been a scenario where the player who was on the lineup card didn't skate in warmup and the healthy scratch did?
Genuine question, because if not, then this would obviously be very different and the refs may have notified these teams in that scenario.
Also, the scale of this screw up is very obvious where the other examples are not, so it may not be obvious to officials.
I don't mind it.

Rule 5.1 - Eligible Players
...
Prior to the game, if an official (on-ice or off-ice) notices that a player is in uniform but has not been included on the submitted lineup, the Referee shall bring this to the attention of the offending team so that the necessary correction can be made to the Official Game Report with no penalty assessed.
Ironically though, as Friedman pointed on the broadcast, the letter of the law is for the officials to notify the Leafs.
Some people are mad at the officials for not breaking the rules in their favour.
I'm not mad at the officials and I would have wanted them to do the same for my team. But it's easy to make the case they wouldn't have won without Nylander.
If that mistake goes through and they lose the game it's an all time HFBash thread. Too bad![]()
Imagine if the Leafs lose, the media drama would have been amazing.I think what the officials did was thr right thing the only reason I'm upset is it would have been really funny if it had gone through.
