Well well well, ain't this something

I don't get why this is a news story. In the article, it says the guy has long held that theory, that no one knows for sure what caused the outbreak, and "The review offered on Saturday is based on "low confidence" which means the intelligence supporting it is deficient, inconclusive or contradictory."

So it seems like the only reason to bring it up now is to somehow get COVID's origin back into the news. I'm sure that's just a coincidence as the worry about a bird flu human outbreak is getting more and more likely.

The Gulf of America formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico (TGOAFKATGOM) would be catchier.

See, the thing is, any change to the name will take many, many years before it reaches maps, textbooks, etc in the classroom. And odds are pretty good that whoever the next president is is simply going to change it back to the Gulf of Mexico (or ignore the Gulf of America name entirely and act like it was never changed in the first place).

So this act is purely performative, except outside of "the official federal nomenclature in the Geographic Names Information System".

Lol we had an all hands last week where our CEO basically said something similar. Basically if it's law or something we are specifically ordered to do, we'll abide. But when it comes to overall direction, there is going to be the next administration, and we have to be able to operate then, too.

Basically, have fun little orange man. You'll be gone soon enough

Yep. On the scale of things that matter, this ranks below putting a stupid US Air paint job on the new Air Force One.

Yeah, I don't think orange man thought this all the way through. This is going to HURT his voting base, a lot.
