How would you rank the top 5 most valuable assets in the NHL today?

This is f***ing hilariously stupid. It’s clear Avs fans have just clung to random “facts” that they’ve heard that aren’t even true. He starts more in the defensive zone without them than with but that idiot BenFranklin doesn’t know how to read data but loves to spew it

Deep thoughts from a deep man.

I'm seeing way too many people naming a 37 year old Crosby as one of the most valuable assets
Crosby is the face of the NHL, the increased valuation a team would get just from him being on the team isn’t easily matched.

If Crosby ever landed in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver? The revenue would be ridiculous

Stop making up numbers. His average TOI is 25:30and O start% 65.73%. Youre still skipping over the lack of PK, quality of competition, and offensive linemates when he does take D zone starts.
Take that up with moneypuck not me. I'm just telling you what I'm reading.

Actually I don't think I will argue with a Avs fan that created an account a week ago. Got better things to do.

You spelled accurate wrong.

Nope. He starts slightly more in the offensive zone without Pettersson and slightly less without Miller this year. And considering both forwards have terrible numbers away from Quinn, it’s pretty clear to anyone who isn’t a biased moron that Hughes doesn’t need anyone’s help getting out of the zone

What is more likely? I created my account a week ago or it was lost in the outage?

Defensive zone...

He gets as many O zone starts as possible with anyone and everyone. D zone, he gets dramatically less with the lower lines than Makar, Josi, Hedman, Fox, and Werenski. Bouchard was the only one with similar numbers.

Offensive zone start percentage includes both offensive and defense zone starts my dude. And no, he doesn’t get dramatically less with the lower lines. This is you making things up

Naturalstattrick it and start another thread. Canucks fans hijacking another Canucks thread here. Shocker.

Err, no. I like Crosby a lot, but he is not the sole face of the NHL: Ovechkin and McDavid are right there with him. And no team is going to trade their future for a (soon to be) 38 year old player.

Those jersey sales though...
You don't think other superstars have great jersey sales? Yes, Crosby is a legend, but he is not the face of the league anymore, and while he probably still sells a lot of jerseys, that factor alone doesn't negate the fact that he'll be out of the 2-3 years from now.

Crosby WAS the face of the NHL in his era, but he is still relevant and a legend nonetheless. However, even if he would be the face of the NHL, picking someone that is likely to retire in the next couple of years as opposed to one of this generations young talents seems foolish to me.

Was? He still very much is and will be until he retires. Crosby spans young and old, newer NHL players won’t have a cult following like him, yet.

With Miller, Pettersson or both: 66.1 offensive zone start %

Without either: 65.2%

He gets more defensive zone starts per minute with Miller and Pettersson, but also gets more offensive zone starts by the same margin, which only suggests there’s more play stoppages.

Regardless, suggesting either Pettersson or Miller, both of whose have terrible numbers away from Hughes are the ones propping up his ability to get out of the zone is, well, absurd

No, they aren’t.

Like I said, I disagree. However, lets assume you are right, I still believe it makes him nowhere near the most valuable asset in the way that OP describes it. You are honing in on team revenue, when the question seems to lean more towards which asset would be most valuable for long-term team success.

Don't you guys get tired of this shit? It's like the same 3-5 posters on each side re-litigating this crap with each other going on like 6 years now. Either you're all trolls or you get provoked by other trolls too easily. Kinda tired of it polluting every single thread and every discussion about Makar and Hughes - just be the bigger poster and let it go!

If you're talking about putting a top 5 player on a team then the only thing that really matters is ability, and to a certain extent age like for example disqualifying a Crosby. Like if you're given the choice between a top 5 player like Leon Draisaitl (using him because of the new contract) or a great value contract like Nick Suzuki, you take Draisaitl every time and worry about finding cap efficiency elsewhere.

Also guys like Celebrini or Bedard just because they're really young are a massive risk when you have proven elite top talent like McDavid/MacKinnon/Draisaitl/Makar/Hughes/etc available.

If I'm building a franchise and taking the face of my organization, contract value is way down the list. I prioritize impact, age, consistency, upside, and position. My list would be:

1. Makar
2. McDavid
3. MacKinnon
4. Q. Hughes
5. Harley
