It's honestly incredible to me that Washington has been running the exact same strategy on their PP for the duration of OVs career and he's still getting one-timers off. Same with Tampa and Stamkos/Kuch.

You could argue we have as much top end talent on the ice as those teams (aside from Rielly), I just don't understand why they can't figure this out. It's cost them a bunch of points and it's gotten to the point where it's a psychological issue now, their winkies shrink when they get the PP and the rest of the league knows it.

Leafs Powerplay is now 32nd out of 32 teams, the only team below 8%.

How would you fix the PP?
Need a Paryko bomber of a shot from point type player and then a Hyman type net front beast to screen tender to bang in rebounds .. then teach Matty and Willy how to squeeze da net from da perimeter .. Mitch can pick up loose pucks and reset PP

I don't think it can be anymore
The biggest problem is what Justin Bourne described....they get the puck passed to them and twirl around in a 3ft radius and then just pass it back to another guy who does the same thing and rinse-repeat for 2min.

We should have movement of both players and the puck with very little time lag from when a player receives the puck on his stick. Make the PK work hard to tire them out by making them chase and not just sitting in a box. We seriously lack passing skills for whatever reason...when I watch other teams snapping it around it literally amazes me...

Heavy, hard, accurate shots from the point will go a long way to helping our Leafs PP.

Big, skilled, front of net player presence.

Stop the cutesy never ending passes. Shoot, shoot, and shoot some more! No more than 3 passes, then a shot.

Keep it simple right now. Put a body in front of the net and throw everything at the goalie. Crash the crease and get some dirty goals.

Too many guys looking for the pretty passing play.

Passing the puck always works better when the D is worried about the point shot. Blocking shots hurts. It makes you think, and flinch, and worry it widens the gap between pk players.
Easy solution. Bombs away, shoot high, shoot hard.

doesn't sound crazy at all. Timmins is quietly pretty slick. But can he shoot? You said you want shooters
Without a net front presence blasting clappers from the point is ineffective. If you want to make a point shot effective you’ll have to somehow convince the softies to leave the safety of the perimeter.
Good luck with that.

I would try AM on the point with OEL. I'd have Knies in front of the net with Willie and McMann on the sides. Now you have 5 guys who will shoot the puck and a couple of guys that will go and get in the goalies way and bang around at any rebound.

My thoughts here:

Short version: A big part of the problem is that they're playing the perimeter and won't get to the dirty areas.

Maple Leafs: 0-for-18 PP on the road. How can their power play be that bad? Unacceptable with all this talent and offense. There's not a shot mentality on the power play right now.

I believe the core is the problem. We need a major trade if we want things to improve at all. Or wait until the off season and let Marner and Tavares walk. Then go out there and sign someone else and hope things get better.

I'm not getting any younger, you know. I would like to see Lord Stanley come to Toronto.

Last night Stamkos scored the exact same one timer from his office with his new teammates in Nashville. Why this kind of setup isn't possible with these guys is beyond me.

Was thinking if you put a big body in front of the net to take away the goalies eyes might be a good start.

Thank god PP points don't mean anything and xgf% 5v5 is far more important. Don't mind the core 4 completely butchering the PP, it's not important.

Shake it up much more radically,.even if it's just for a couple weeks .Marner and Matthews on different units. Force the guys to start thinking differently

Screens and tips and rebounds are all critical components especially when wanting to generate much via point shots. You don’t see many of them beating goalies clean, and when they do it’s generally a result of traffic.
