I would say BC is deeper but Ontario has higher end talent. 3 #1D men for gods sake, and Ekblad has be potential to be one

For the population of BC, it is remarkable how many excellent NHL Def they produce.

But this Ontario group alone could represent Canada at the 2018 Olympics. And there are really 5 or 6 No. 1 Def in the Ontario group:

Subban
Doughty
Pietrangelo
Giordano
Ekblad
Boyle (getting old, yes, but was a No. 1 in San Jose)
Burns

Since this thread has turned into a provincial debate. Heres the pride of Canada, Team Alberta

Gallagher - Ennis- MacArthur
Lupul - Brodziak - Versteeg
Raymond - Chimera - Doan

Bouwmeester - Phaneuf
Coburn - Green
Boychuk - Spurgeon

You could also claim Tyler Myers who grew up in Calgary despite his misfortune of being born in Houston.

Outside of goaltending, that would be a tough team to face in an NHL-sized rink.

If I was to pick one Province / State / Region that would. Have the dominant team, it would be Ontario. In fact, I'd argue that an Ontario team would be good enough to win the Olympics, let alone the WHC.

To start (I may have missed a star player or two)

Hall - Tavares - Stamkos
Duchene - Giroux - Seguin
R. Nash - Nugent-Hopkins - Simmonds
O'Reilly - E. Staal - J. Carter
McDavid

Subban - Doughty
M. Staal - Pietrangelo -
Burns - Ekblad
D. Hamilton

Steve Mason
Mike Smith

That team would be capable of winning the Olympics.

Nugent-Hopkins is from Burnaby BC...

Huberdeau - Ribeiro - St. Louis
Tanguay - Bergeron - Brassard
Perron - Pominville - Drouin
Paquette - Vermette - Dupuis
(Chiasson, Desharnais, Marchessault, Talbot, Mantha, Duclair)

Letang - Beauchemin
Vlasic - Demers
Savard - Scandella
(Despres, Barberio, Robidas and soon Matheson, Morin, Chabot, J.Roy, Biega bros)

Fleury
Crawford
(Luongo, Bernier)

Can anyone put together a team Saskatchewan? A Budweiser commercial claims they produce, pound for pund the most pro hockey players in Canada.

Crazy that Saskatchewan and Manitoba can produce such NHL talent with population barely over a million in whole province. Quebec has tons too, but with a population of 9 million that isn't quite as impressive. Have almost 10 times the population.

This thread makes me wish there was an 8 team tourney with like 5 regional canadian teams and 3 regional american teams........

Minnesota (pop. 5.5 million) is really the only place in the US that can even compare to Canada is player development. Obviously as a state we would never be in IIHF but to illustrate here is an attempt. Still lags far behind Ontario and goaltending is horrible but we are getting close.

(McDonagh, Stepan, JT Brown not included because in playoffs)

Parise - Backes - Wheeler
Byfuglien - Bjugstad - Okposo
Oshie - Nelson - Lee
Schroeder - Cullen - Hendricks/Carter

Faulk - Eric Johnson
Niskanen - Byfuglien
P.Martin - Leddy

Stalock
Curry

I present team Saskatchewan

Marleau - Getzlaf - Eberle
Kunitz - Bozak - Schwartz
Laich - Stoll - Glencross
Morrow - Gordon - Hartnell

Gryba - Dumba
Pouliot - Schenn
Schultz - Aulie

Dubnyk
Ward

Man... thats an awful d core lol

I think a Canada west vs Canada east would be fun. BC to Winnpeg vs Ontario to the Rest

Getzlaf is in the playoffs. Impressive team though nonetheless.

Actually what if all the canadian provinces and territories battled it out in a qualification tournament to represent team canada at the olympics?

Example...
Group a
1. Manitoba
2. Ontario
3. Atlantic
4. Alberta

Group b
1. quebec
2. Saskatchewan
3. Nwt/yukon/nunavut
4. Bc

After round Robin play, then the Group winners battle it out in a final qualification match to represent team canada lol. Imagine that! Lol

Who wins that tournament? Lol

Outside of goaltending, that's a solid team that could go toe-to-toe with any country in the 2015 WHC.

I'd add Holtby in net, B. Schenn up front. Outside of the Def (Aulie - yikes) that's a good squad.

BC vs. Ontario final, barring a big upset. BC lacks a bit up front, but with Shea Weber and Carey Price, they're not giving up much. Ontario's 3rd line centre would be one of Stamkos, Tavares, or Giroux, and their 3rd pairing RD would be one of Doughty, Subban, or Pietrangelo, so they'd pound everybody with their depth.

I feel like we're starting to finally have some good defensive prospects hailing from Quebec and thus I wanted to make a ''future'' team Quebec line-up. That offense is elite. Not sure about our goalies though...

Joe Veleno - Jonathan Drouin - Julien Gauthier
Pierre-Luc Dubois - Jonathan Huberdeau - Anthony Duclair
Anthony Beauvillier - Antoine Morand - Anthony Mantha
Émile Poirier - Cédric Paquette - Nicolas Aubé-Kubel
Xavier Parent - Maxime Comtois - Xavier Simoneau

Thomas Chabot - Jérémy Roy
Xavier Ouellet - Nicolas Meloche
Michael Matheson - Samuel Girard
Guillaume Brisebois - Samuel Morin

Callum Booth - Antoine Bibeau

Aside from having Byfuglien twice, that's a stupidly good team. That'd be a a top end NHL roster aside from goaltending. What about Suter? Or is he not from Minnesota?

What's even more impressive is that 40% of canadian athletes at Sochi 2014 we're from Quebec.

I have always wondered about this. I would split up Ontario into Northern Ontario (Starting Ottawa, continuing NW) and take out the territories because there are barely any AHLers nvm NHLers. I would be cool to have some US states in there too.

Group A:
ATL
MA
QC
NY

Group B:
MI
MN
NON
SON

Group C:
BC
SK
MB
AB

I wouldn't mind if that tournament took the place of the world cup.

I think GTA and Rest of Ontario works better in dividing talent (Sends guys like Thornton, Dought, Couture, Ekblad etc out of the southern Ont team). I'd say the GTA team should probably be Toronto, Vaughn, Halton, Peel, York and Durham.
