How should helmet fit? (Touch forehead?)

Hi, I'm wondering if a hockey helmet should come into contact with your forehead, or if there should be a gap, and if so, how much of one?

Thanks.

I have a pretty big head, and many helmets seem to be tight on the sides, but have a gap in the front (they do not come into contact with my forehead).

As another guy with a pretty big head, I can tell you that some makes just aren't going to fit. Eventually I found a helmet that fit perfectly, but I tried on about six in various sides before I found the one that was right. You'll find one too, but you may have to pay a bit more than you were expecting to get the perfect helmet for you. I know I did, but it's worth it!

Keep in mind the foam gets compressed when you use it so it makes the helmet bigger. I was debating buying a medium or large because the medium was a bit too tight when I tried it on in store. However, after using it for a while, the medium is actually a little too big now and shifts a bit on my head!

As stated the helmet should be snug all around but not enough to give you a headache. I also have a large head...takes me about a week to break in an xl hat without headaches. I use the older Bauer 3500 helmet with the foam rather then the newer styles with the gel padding. I had a 4500 and the gel just turned hard anyways

The 4500 used similar foam to the 3500, only had an extra denser layer to it. No gel there.

Sorry, just nitpicking haha

Don't forget to factor in something like a skullcap that can make the fit better :D Plus keeps the nasty sweat out from the eyes :)

If necessary, go with the super-cool-guy Kelly Hrudey headband look.
