The guy plays with Nylander, gets primo PP1 time. Boosts his stats.

Doesn't drive play at all, the play dies on his stick every time. Isn't physical, can't pass, can't defend. can't skate. What does he do exactly?

You add a 4th series and it's 25 games played 11 points. He's awful.

Ok so last 3 series the guy had 20 games and he put up 9 points. It actually takes some skills to not rack up points by accident playing with Nylander.

How many of those 9 points were on the PP? His 5 on 5 play died after year 1.

He's been a PP and regular season merchant. Worse than Domi the last 2 playoffs.

Think about that. Boston series, Matthews was crippled, Nylander was hurt, Marner injured. Our el Captain does NOTHING. Don't expect anything from him either. But can you do more than Domi?????

He's not at 3C level in the postseason if he's off the PP1. I guarantee it.

Exactly. Center depth is low but Tavares isn't the be all end all, especially not at his reported ask.

The Leafs have (had?) all the leverage here. I'm guessing, very similarly to the 2019 Tavares situation, that JT had his mind made up until other teams started letting him know what actual money is available to him if he hit open market, and now he's having to reconsider.

You go low, he goes high, and you potentially compromise somewhere in the middle or off you go.

If my 2 options are giving Tavares an extended term deal to save a hundred grand under the cap, or let him walk? I let him walk. The idea that they need to be getting creative to keep the cap hit down for a 35 year old who is slowing down, is insane to me.

Offer him 3 years at your best AAV, and attach a take-it-or-leave it ultimatum - it's remarkable how poor Treliving is at this.

We cant risk losing a playoff position with no draft picks, and losing both Marner and Tavares for nothing definitely increases that risk significantly. If Matthews needs extended time off in that scenario, the teams completely screwed.

He's still gonna be our 2C with how the UFA class is and no real tradable assets to acquire one. Like it or not, unless we try to get an overpaid 2C like Kadri or Zib, then Tavares will continue to be it
