I would be ok if they gave him 5 on a 2 year deal but we know they most likely give him 9 on a 4 year deal……..it’s kinda what the leafs do is over pay

It takes a special kind a “Leaf Fan” to start a thread like this and claim he’s a 4-5M player .

A real special one
A non delusional one sure.

Takes a special type of fan to pretend a guy putting ~50 pt per 82 games in the playoffs gifted every opportunity is worth more than 5M when he doesnt bring grit, defense or physicality.

Another decade of leafs sucking if people like you get your ways for the team

Duchene will have made $29.24M
By the end of his contracts

29.24/4 is $7.31M
tavares by the end of his total contracts will have made ~125M

duchene by the end of his total contracts (including next one) will have made 98.6+whatever he is making from the buyout. Not including it and its 80.6+whatever from the buyout

I dont get how a 50 point playoff performer who as a leaf has never once been a top 3 player in a series has this much support. He's been horrible and of the core frauds the biggest perpetrator.

Ideally, I would just move on from Tavares and Marner.

He's been just as guilty as the other core members during big games in the playoffs. You can stomach him coming back if he takes a super team-friendly deal, but if he wants to squeeze them then it's time to move on.

There's no reason to tolerate these guys anymore.

Pierre Lebrun is reporting that Tavares and Toronto aren’t close

Brisson says the market has “shifted” after seeing what’s out there

“Unless there was a lot of term attached to it, there’s no way Tavares signs for $5 million a year with the Leafs,” LeBrun said. “It’s gonna have to be more than that.”

So tired of Toronto media continuously shilling for the players.

If that's the case, I'm fine with Tavares packing his bags. The core has accomplished little. Time to move on.

I'm guessing Tavares is looking for $7-8M per (open market) and that a discount for the Leafs would be $6-6.5 M per.

Duchene doesn't sign for $4.5 million per if he doesn't have that extra $11 million from his buyout.

That gives him $7.25 M per over the next 4 seasons while Nelson is getting $7.5 M per over the next 3.

I'm sure Tavares camp feels he's a better player than both of them.

Signing Tavares would only be running it back regardless of Marner leaving. The team needs a shake up. The formula didn't work.

I agree.

I'm just looking at this from a business standpoint and how agents and players would be analyzing the situation.

I'm taking fan emotions out of it.

Sorry John. Sorry Mitch.

When you're paid big and you become perennial losers it's not supposed to be fun anymore. It's no longer comfort time for your career.

Yes the Leafs gave you plenty of money.

Players like Patches and Spezza played for a lot less and showed more life in the playoffs.

Now changes will occur for better or for worse.

Tavares is the best UFA C out there and he knows it. If the Leafs can get Zbin for a song, you could move on but he comes with an 8.5m cap hit for 5 more years. Tavares as our #2C should be a non starter but if the Leafs can't find a better #2C, they may have to circle back.

Leafs could go big fish hunting and try to pry Petey out of Vancouver. Yes he has the DNA of a chihuahua but maybe a change of scenery and playing with 88 will wake him the f*** up.

The message is clear.

We don't want you here anymore. If you want to be here it will be on our terms. Otherwise good luck on your new team.

20 goals and 41 points isn't that hard to replace.

Oh but wait you say... Tavares had 38 goals and 74 points this year. And if you were including his power play numbers that massively inflated his overall totals you would be correct. But finding a mercenary to rack up points on the power play shouldn't be hard... Domi could probably do it.

Replacing Tavares' 5-on-5 stats is more important but shouldn't be all that difficult either.

For anyone so clueless they have to keep asking who the Leafs should sign from the crummy free agency crop this year the answer is simple. There's no reason to limit themselves to just free agency when they can easily pursue a trade. A 40 point 2C is cheap acquisition cost and with Tavares' $11M share of the salary cap pie the Leafs should be able to find one player to replace him on the pp and another to replace his 5-on-5 totals.

Who those players are, and how they are acquired, is inconsequential.

The Leafs are gonna suck regardless who is on the Team.

I'm just not ignorant, sensitive or snowflakie ( i used ie instead of y because as i dad i find your childish behaviour really cute) enough to start this thread with this

Trying to determine how much value Tavares provides us?

Tavares makes 11M and has seen his offense die

Is Tavares worth 50%, 40%, 30% of his deal?

He should be around 4.5M so about 60% overpaid

Thank you team, you've finally started to see reality holy fck.

Who gives a fck about the regular season stat padding when he wasn't even 3C levels for lots of the playoffs.
Tied for 12th in goals for centers in the playoffs even though he was involved in only 2 of the 4 rounds. Pretty lofty for a 3c. 16 teams involved being 12th makes him a 1c in goals scored.

As I said, it's all fake stats.

The guy plays with Nylander, gets primo PP1 time. Boosts his stats.

Doesn't drive play at all, the play dies on his stick every time. Isn't physical, can't pass, can't defend. can't skate. What does he do exactly?

Ok, how good was Tavares the last 3 series? 20 games played. 9 points???

You add a 4th series and it's 25 games played 11 points. He's awful.

also tied for 52nd in points with 14 other players including Domi-Rielly-Knies but he shot way back up into a tie for 18th in the worst +/- with a -6 which led the Leafs !

the great part of the Mumblers playoffs is he had 3 pts in the last 11 games which that isn't easy to do when your winger is producing like Willie was
