How much support for Jacobs?

It's the status quo for Papa Jacobs. All he wants is his 2 home playoff games every year to rake in that cash. If he cares about the future of this team he should fire Claude and Neely. Something tells me he doesn't have the gonads to do so.

I think he wants to win now and tomorrow. That double focus dilutes everything.

I think they try to avoid lying in those things.

(The league needed to be fixed, but they didn't need to lose a whole season. And they definitely didn't need to lose half a season shortly after.)

Not a lie. "Probably" means its not stated as factual. Much like "driving force" means it wasn't all on Mr. Burns.

We have to choose our words carefully.

I'm not from the area so my only real thoughts of him was how emotional he seemed in 2011 winning the cup. It seemed to mean a lot to him. I know he loves money, but I think he really loves winning too.

Meh. I am glad he spends to the cap now but my problem would be if he is pushing for this "need to make the playoffs" for that extra money rather than accepting a true rebuild where you let the GM comfortably do his job.

This is coming from the same owner who made Harry Sinden factor the first round of the playoffs into his budget on a yearly basis. Of course the motivation is playoff gates and concession sales...Imagine if he had become the Sox owner...sweet jesus. Pedro would have been out of town for 4 29 year old minor leaguers.

Anybody who wants to read up on Jeremy Jacobs should look for this book from the early 70's - Thirty Tons A Day by Bill Veeck

https://books.google.com/books?id=C...ved=0ahUKEwiasaaTjNvRAhUJRCYKHVrrA8UQ6AEIGjAA

Veeck wrote at length how young Jerry Jacobs would not budge to help Veeck out at Sufflok Downs and what Jacobs wanted Veeck simply could not do. This came down a few years before he bought the Bruins.

Veeck had bought a track in Western Mass with the intention of using the additional racing dates in Boston but Jacobs owned the concessions at the track and told Veeck they only way he would agree was to give him the concessions at Suffolk Downs and Veeck already had another company in place.

Like others have said, bringing Ray Bourque to Arbitration. Unreal. One of the greatest defenceman in the world at that time.

In 1995 he retired those classic Original Six Jersey's\Uniforms for some Winnipeg knock off style jersey's and that Winnie The Pooh 3rd jersey going into the Fleece Center. I've despised him ever since.

I think he might equate spending to the cap with a winning team and that simply isn't how it works. Teams can spend to the cap and still suck. It isn't how much you spend it is who you spend it on.

I think most Red Sox fans would also appreciate how the new Ownership stepped in to save Fenway on top of winning a few championships.

Another way to say that: they found a way to monetize Fenway in a way that made it more sensible to keep that park instead of building a new one.

If (when?) it becomes more profitable to build a new ballpark, I wouldn't be shocked to see that happen.

I might be too cynical here, but I don't think anyone saved Fenway out of altruism.

Support the Bruins, but beware it comes with a terrible curse.

That's bad.

But it comes with a cup in 2011.

That's good!

But then there is a sad decline into mediocrity.

That's bad.

But you get to park right under the Garden.

That's good.

But parking costs $55.

That's bad.

But the hot dogs are delicious.

That's good!

The hot dogs contain the preservatives sodium nitrate and nitrite

...

That's bad.

Can I go now?

Bravo. Bravo.. Well done, I like this.. :handclap:

Whatever the motive they were the only ownership group committed to Fenway, and while it might not have been altruistic it was mutually beneficial. I do think they saw other ways to monetize the park (eg. Football at Fenway, Frozen Fenway) that would probably not work at some run of the mill post-modern park like PNC Park or Minute Maid Park.
However, back ~2000 when they bought the team they were the only bidders willing to Salvage Fenway

Please Bob Kraft...... please make that old fool Jeremy Jacobs an offer he can't refuse.

Bob Kraft -- a long term fan and a guy who made a long-term, patient effort to buy the Pats. I would guess it wasn't because he wanted to sell his hot dogs and watery beer.

-Patriots fan since AFL days.
-Season ticket holder to Pats since 1971.
-In 1985 started attempt to buy Pats by buying 10 year option on Foxboro Raceway.
-In 1988 paid $22M for run down Sullivan Stadium including lease to Patriots through 2001.
-Sullivan and Victor Kiam wanted to move team to Jacksonville. Kraft blocked them.
-James Orthwein bought Pats and wanted to move to St Louis. Kraft blocked him.
-Orthwein offered Kraft $75M to buy out lease (nearly 4x profit). Kraft said no.
-Kraft made successful offer to buy team for $172M in 1994 – higher than any other sports team.
-Years later Kraft said passion for Pats led him to “break every one of my financial rules” to get them.
-Prior to Kraft buying team: One SB appearance and 6 PO appearances in 33 years.
-Since: PO appearances in 16 of 21 seasons. Five Super Bowl Championships out of Eight Appearances.
