How Much More Threatening Would the Leafs be With ... another scoring threat on the 3rd Line

If the Leafs acquired, say, a Marchand/Donato/Granlund ...

How much more of a threat would they be? The top 2 lines are rolling, and, Domi is the only threat outside of the top 6.

Imagine if they had one of Marchand/Donato/Granlund on the 3rd line to pair with Domi...
That 3rd line could be a match up nightmare.

I understand Laughton is "not comfortable/not settled in", but, come on, we can see clear as day the type of player he is, a few points here and there won't change anything.

He completely fails the eye-test, he is no better than an Alex Steeves or Holmberg.

Marchand isn't a 3rd line winger, that guy would be riding shotty with Matthews with Knies moving down and McMann getting stapled to the third line. If that were the case, they would be significantly more dangerous.

Yes, I understand that Marchand is not a 3rd line winger.

Much similar to how Kessel was not a 3rd line winger, but, on PIT Stanley cup runs, he created a nightmare matchup on the 3rd line.

Our top 6 is on fire right now, and, there would be no reason to change anything ....
Although McMann is great, Domi and McMann don't gel too well.

Domi needs a highly skilled player to play with, in order, to get the most value out of him.

Domi plays more skilfully when he has a Tavares/Matthews to boot with, he doesn't seem as motivated when he's given sub par players like Robertson/Holmberg etc.

Welcome aboard stranger. Who could they get with less than $2M in cap space to play with? Thats the thing. They are servicing mega salaries while desperately hoping their pro scouting can help pull a rabbit out of a hat. Until they trim some fat or the cap leaps without a star consuming it, there will always a hole like that. I much regret O'Rielly was not interested in moving but because they could have squeezed has salary in but you can't buy what isn't for sale.

It's not a cap issue.

They could have sent one a Jarnkrok/Holmberg the otherway, and or, paid a sweetner for the other team to eat 50% or more of cap.

As well, they could have doctored an injury to send a player to LTIR till playoffs. After retaining 50%, the cap hits for those players would be about 2.5 mill, and, involving a 3rd team to eat another million would cost no more than 3rd.

This was clearly not a cap issue. They could have easily made the cap work.

Player has to agree, in most cases, to the transfer.

Marchand unlikely.

But my desire was a 2nd line center, with term, to help Tavares agree to a team friendly agreement.

I don't at all disagree with the sentiment, though finding an alternative gets a bit trickier

I doubt Marchand would have been available to the Leafs

Donato and Granlund would have been very intriguing, but don't really seem like they will fit Berube/Tres view of the team.Granlund especially.

personally, I liked Yanni Gourde as an option but he went for an absurd price. Maybe Laughton finds his groove the closer we get to Game 1

With what cap? We have no room unless we spend way too much on a player with 75% retention that would still fit.

The best way to get depth is to separate the stars, not sure why it’s never given a real chance. Marner or Nylander on the third line would go a long way in getting the most out of the depth players. Obviously it’s tough to split up the top two lines now since they’ve been playing well, but I still think the team would be better switching Marner and Domi. First line takes a hit but third line would be much better and Marner can still pick up extra shifts here and there if ice time is an issue.

How much better would the Leafs have been, if we landed Granlund, Rantanen and Marchand for our third line... how great would that be?

But that's not reality. We are who we are.
