How much do local tv and radio guys make

Just wondering how much the NHL play by play guys make for the local broadcasts. I've never heard anyone mention that.

Depends on the market and the medium.

TV / 82 games; probably 85-200 K depending on the market

Radio / 82 games; probably 50-150 K depending on the market

A TV sports reporter isn't the same as a play by play guy and obviously a sports reporter in Los Angeles or New York is going to make much more than a sports reporter in Boise or Omaha.

Hard to say, I wonder what the panelists make as well. Also the national guys like Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson make more than the regional play by play guys for Sportsnet.

Salary Expectations for a TV Sports Reporter

To quote:

"TV sports reporters earned average annual salaries of $55,000 as of 2013, according to the job website Simply Hired."

If this is the 'average,' then just covering a single sport would be at or below the average.

For radio, one would expect about 2/3s of the 'average.'

Not sure I agree with your salary assesment there. If that's the average over all positions, then those working at the highest level in the biggest markets covering the NHL would make above average.

I don't know how well it translates into salary but as an indicator here in Carolina, based on tax values, John Forslund's (TV PBP) house is worth approximately $627,000, Tripp Tracy's (TV color) condo is worth about $320,000, and Chuck Kaiton's (Radio PBP) house is worth about $300,000.

"Sports reporter" does not equate to "TV play by play" nor "TV analyst" nor even "team sideline reporter."

Most teams have "iconic" pxp and/or analyst folks. (IOW, fans can't "see" anyone else ever filling those shoes as the folks doing it now are "the best.")

Iv herd that Bob Mccown makes 6mil a year for his 4-7pm daily program on The Fan 590.

Ive never heard its that much, not even close, though I have heard $500,000 (2007-2011 Contract) & then possibly as much as $850,000 + per annum when he re-signed in 2011/12.... Not bad for a guy who started out as the Public Address Announcer at Blue Jays games years ago then worked for Global (then new) as Sportscaster/Newsreader & eventually hosted a show called The Business of Sports for awhile as well. He's number one in the largest media market in Canada (Toronto) with a national audience in the all important predominantly male 24-45yr old market so ya, he can demand a decent Contract. But $6M?!

I remember listening to his show in Detroit via a Windsor radio station. I heard he makes around $1 mil. $6 mil... No way. Still not many people make that kind of money in radio.
