I think Step has been one of 3 or 4 players that have been really good the last 10 games. The last three games he has lead all forwards in ice time, and I think he has been really hard on the puck lately. How many years does he get and how much? IMO I think he gets 3 years, 9 million. Your thoughts......

Two, and I wouldn't go too much further considering he has ostensibly plateaued as a 45-50 point 2nd line center. We haven't seen much evidence that he'll rise above that level.

Stepan is worth more than 2.5 a year? There is no way that he is not worth more than DZ. IMO he will get closer to 3 a year and get three years. He has been as good as anyone on this team after his first 5 games! Is there any way he does not get 3.to 3.5 a year?

How is ROR, Eberle, Hall all worth twice that? Step is as important to this team as any of those guys is he not? He kills, on the top PP, plays in every situation during the game! Is he worth 3 to 3.5? He is the second lowest paid forward on this team. That makes me sick!!

They'ye not worth twice of what Stepan is worth, they just have GMs who don't handle their players coming off ELCs as well as Sather does.

Just like Landeskog on his team? (When you remove bonuses that will never be reached.) It's an ELC.

Bridge contract=less cap hit. Stupid GM's like Edmonton thinks it's good to lock you players up long term. For this team, bridge contract is the way to go.

Look, I've been very critical of Step in the past but he has played great and been our best player not named Rick Nash.

His good play withstanding, he probably won't get more than a 2 year bridge deal for around 2.75 to 3 mil a year max. To put Step in the same class as Eberle and Hall is categorically unfair to him!

2 years, $5M/$6M.

Sam Gagner got a 2 year, $4.55M contract. Stepan is better than Gagner was at that point, but they're comparable. Give Stepan a little more money.

For what it is worth, I also do not believe we get Step at 2.5 per year. I would like to see a 3 to 3.5 million for three years, but I am ok with 3.5 per year for two years. Step has been as good as any of the forwards on most nights this year other than the first 3-5 games.

I hope we can keep him around for a long time because he gets better and better every year. I think he is the type of player that could be the captain of this team in a couple of years. Tort's said early in his career "The kid just gets it". I like that kind of player and you can see the improvement in his game every year.

He has no negotiating leverage. He won't get that much on a 2 year deal, and that's normally what Sather gives to players coming off their ELC.

McD and Hagelin are different because they were older when they signed their ELCs, so they will be arbitration eligible. That gives them leverage. Stepan isn't. His only options are to sign the contract that Sather offers, sit out, or sign an offer sheet, if he gets one.

Whether or not you think he deserves 3.5 mil based on his play is irrelevant.
