How many teams can you name?

I can easily and consistently get all of them. The trick is, I used to have a placemat growing up that had all of them with their logos in alphabetical order.

So I've just updated and amended with expansion and franchises moving etc. But if you learn it in alphabetical order you'll never forget teams.

Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Americans, Philadelphia Quakers, St. Louis somethings, Wikipedia says Eagles.

Hamilton was the Tigers, who were previously the Quebec Athletics, and became the New York Americans after a player's strike had them kicked out of the league by Frank Calder, then president of the league.
With Toronto St. Patricks on the list, you also need toinclude the Toronto Arenas, Detroit Cougars, Detroit Falcasons, and Chicago Black Hawks (vs. the current Blackhawks) as previous names for current teams. The Seals were also known as the Oakland Seals and the Bay Area Seals.

While the Quebec Athletics were the team that actually played in the NHL in 1919-20, there was also the Quebec Bulldogs who were members of the NHL for the first two seans but did not actually field a team in either season. The Bulldogs franchise was revocked and given to the Quebec Athletic Club who fielded the Athletics.

Montreal Wanderers too should make the list. And for history's sake Toronto's first NHL franchise was the Toronto Hockey Club, which I just learned today.

Timed event while rushing and no tracking materials like paper, excel, etc, I suppose the pressure could make it more difficult. With no pressure, all of them, and confidently calling it easy.

Fair enough, they didn't adopt the Arenas name until the second season. Although, Wikipedia says they had no official name for the first season.

I would have scored under a minute but got stuck on a certain Central division team
Under a minute? Are you using a keyboard with the list of teams in front of you? 1 minute is 60 seconds to type in 32 teams. That’s 1.87 seconds per team at exactly 1 minute. Truly impressive if you are actually doing it, but I’m skeptical.

My first run I finished with exactly 1 second remaining. The Blues hung me up the longest. Which is funny, because my team just played the Blues in their last game.

Second run I finished with about 2 minutes left. There’s always a team in each division that I seem to get hung up on for a few seconds.

Give me a 5 min timer and indication of what I've already guessed. I could do it pretty quickly. I occasionally test myself on countries of the world in 15 min (also needs correct spelling) and usually get 75%+, so this should be easy.

Agreed. That Sporcle quiz, as an example, can actually be pretty tough if you have a brain freeze for a bit.

I had no trouble naming most, but then my brain froze for over a minute with 2 teams left. It's not that I don't know those teams exist (stars and avs, fwiw). But a ticking timer makes things harder. Without the timer? It shouldn't be difficult for most fans who follow hockey enough to make a hfboards account.

I've always struggles with names of people and places. So I actually didn't expect to get all 32 in the Sporcle time allowed. Even puckdoku can be torture sometimes, because I can describe a players career and style and everything, but can't dig up their name from my brain.
