How many prospects make the opening night roster?

I see Toffs and Scrivens making it and Shore is the name that keeps coming up in the rumor mill. I think he needs a year at least on the farm but he sure is well liked.

DSab will get a contract and soon too.

Are Scott and Danny Sabourin related? I know you meant Scott, easy to think of Danny since he's been around the block for a while now.

I still think Toffoli makes the cut, and I think Pearson at least starts with the Kings. Shore could too but I agree, he needs a season in Manchester and in LA right now he'd likely be on the 4th line. Send him down and get him a ton of ice time in Manchester.

Manchester should be really fun to watch this year. For once the weakest part of that team might be the defense.

I say None, remember how many injuries the Kings had in a just 48 games ?

I bet Lombardi and Sutter do, They will keep as many people as possible.

So the kids will be sent down. They are young, and in the AHL you still play against Men. It's not like you are sending these kids back to JR hockey.

Shore was the most impressive Rookie, kid has got serious game. He looked better than Toffoli, playing a harder position.

Edit:

On another note I am pretty disappointed with Maxim Kitsyn's game.
he looked really raw, like his time in the KHL he learned zip.

Maxim has a lot of work to do in Manchester.

I'd wager you're not far off. From what little information I heard, he didn't see the ice much.

Luckily it shouldn't impede the style he brings to the NHL, a crash the net north-south game. He'll need a few years in Manchester though at least, though we are so deep at forward that that was likely to be the case no matter what.

After watching the team evolve in camp, it's going to be really hard for young guys to stick this year. King and Nolan are flying compared to last year, maybe the sophomore slump is for real. Clifford is having his typical strong start.

I think Toffoli has shown he's an NHL player, but the org. doesn't like its youth being 13th/rotating players. The more I think about it, the more I'm seeing that this is probably the exact role that Carcillo was signed for. Next year will be the year some guys break in. Fras and Carcillo are going to open some bottom 6 spots (AA, Sabourin types). I think Lewis is going to be inked and Stoll's eventual replacement will be up for grooming next season. A defense slot may be open next year as well.

It's a weird spot for some of our skill guys because for guys like Pearson, TT, or Vey to stick the Kings are going to have to shift the third line towards a scoring mentality. There aren't any top 6 spots to be had unless Frattin doesn't work out, and the other guys are locked up. I can't see how an extension for JW isn't started on the first day they are allowed to do so.

The move has nothing to do with his youth, but rather a lack of a roster spot.

If he had a standout performance I would think that he may have forced someone onto waivers. Some of us said based on performance in camp and preseason games that Toffoli wouldn't make the roster, and perhaps competition and not being eligible for waivers influenced the decision, but Toffoli didn't really force the team to make a tough call on whether or not to keep him around.

He looked rather pedestrian in camp(Toffoli), Nick Shore on the other hand....WOW.

Also Tanner Pearson, man that kid can play.

In a couple of seasons we may see both Pearson and Toffoli as top six forwards in the lineup, it's just that right now there's still Brown, Williams, Carter and Frattin on the wings in the top six who aren't losing their spots just yet. I think as some of those guys get older and slow down (Brown and Williams in particular), they may get a more reduced role and could eventually be supplanted by the likes of Pearson and Toffoli. The same applies with Vey and Shore who will be pushing Fraser out of the way and then come in to replace Stoll. It's a hierarchy that they have to eventually progress towards. Better than the Kings giving these guys spots or forcing them into positions like we were used to seeing in the past (i.e. Dustin Brown when he broke in as a rookie).

I called it. Just no room.

Toffoli was invisible most of camp. Vey showed nice hands but Pearson was the one who really surprised me.

He has an uphill battle trying to replace Brown, Frattin, King and Clifford anytime soon though.

So... next year...?

Brown - Kopitar - Carter
Pearson - Vey - Toffoli
Frattin - Richards - Williams
Clifford - Andreoff - Lewis

I'm kidding. Sorta.

Many people called it. You're just the only one on here pounding on your chest. Get over yourself!!!

It's sad that a skilled players like Pearson and Toffoli can't replace a King/Clifford or Lewis on our current roster. We are going to struggle scoring much like last season. I hope I'm wrong, but I guess we'll soon find out.

Me too in some ways--it's pretty clear that those guys bring more pure skill--but we get a lot smaller and lose grit if we make those replacements, and not many teams can just roll nothing but skill lines and make it work, you know? Can you imagine a series with the Blues with a bunch of young-20-something rookies in the lineup? Plus, I'm sure we'll see them throughout the season. One more year of growth won't hurt them.

Pearson barely played a full AHL season. Toffoli same because of the call-up. Teams like Detroit keep players in the AHL for 2-4 years before calling them up.

We won the Cup and went deep last year. We have a young core. That is good sign. No player ever was ruined because he spent too much time in the AHL but many players were ruined because they jumped from juniors to the NHL too soon or only parts of an AHL season.

Nolan, King, Voynov, Lewis all paid dues in Manchester.
